07:25 AM ET 11.04 | Of the players who may or may not be available, Red Sox fans, fresh off a World Series celebration, sure would enjoy seeing Giancarlo Stanton in Boston. Stanton is a young, power-hitting outfielder who would look marvelous in a Red Sox uniform. ... [David Price] remains the biggest legitimate trade piece on the market. So, who has the best chance of obtaining him? Both Los Angeles teams seem to be interested, though the Dodgers appear to have a full house with Clayton Kershaw (who could sign a $300 million deal this offseason), Zack Greinke, Hyun-jin Ryu, Stephen Fife, and comebacking Josh Beckett and Chad Billingsley. The Angels could package Mark Trumbo, power the Rays desperately need, and others for Price. The Angels are also willing to part with Howie Kendrick to make a deal for pitching.

The Angels could offer up Hambone and Phat Al as long as they cover 95% of their salaries...

Both players will probably be traded this off season because the current teams know they cannot sign them long term and will get nothing if they wait until they become free agents.

Stanton is arbitration eligible and is due a significant pay raise over the $537,000 he made this season.

The Marlins control Stanton for some time to come and have no urgent reason to move him now...they actually might be selling low considering that he didn't have a great season in '13 after slugging over .600 in '12, so it probably makes sense to hold onto him and hope that he actually tries in '14 (seeing as how the punk "wasn't happy" last spring training).

There was a media story that the Marlins may have an interest in Middlebrooks "for his power"?
That would be a trade made in heaven for Boston, toss in one of their pitching surplus.

The new GM is also quoted as saying he'll build a team around Stanton.

You would most likely be looking at along with Middlebrooks, Bradley Jr. and 2 top pitching prospects.

I'd say chances are good the Price his dealt. No so for Stanton. He's the only reason to go watch the Marlins.

the marlins released a statement saying stanton is going no where

but well see if that sticks with the owner

Its very easy. Jeffrey Loria is a hambone away from destroying what's left of his franchise. If ANY team offered, say, $35-$40 million and one of its everyday players for Stanton............deal done.
You have to understand who you are dealing with in Miami, and Loria has a history of just caring about making money. Open the checkbooks, and Stanton is yours.

Loria also told all those big free agents he signed he wasn't going to trade them away...we saw what happened there.

MLB has frowned upon deals with large cash components for quite some time...but, Loria obviously must have an in with Selig.

"He's the only reason to go watch the Marlins." When has that ever meant anything to Jeff Loria?
While the Marlins do have control over Stanton, if Loria can deal him for more prospects and a current MLB roster player, he'd do it in a heartbeat...Giancarlo and arbitration looming is not a prescription or long term thinking in Miami.

I think the Marlins are interested in Middlebrooks, but I don't think Stanton would be part of that potential transaction.
