Plodding Idzik won't guarantee Rex's future

07:15 AM ET 11.05 | No matter the time he spent talking, answers weren't going to be forthcoming. The press conference lasted 23 minutes and there was going to be no definitive answer coming from Jets general manager John Idzik about the future of his head coach Rex Ryan -- not even if the session had lasted 223 minutes. That is not how Idzik operates. He plods at his own pace. Monday's bye week state-of-the-team address was, after all, only the third time he has spoken to the media since the beginning of September. ... [Idzik] referenced "living in the moment" (or a phrase close to it) almost as many times as his rookie quarterback Geno Smith has thrown interceptions this season. Ryan's status has been a hot topic since he was retained by owner Woody Johnson after last season's 6-10 mess that got general manager Mike Tannenbaum fired.

Keep Rex around, he'd surely be missed up in Foxboro!

The team has done well considering... Maybe smart on the part of the GM. Don't want Rex to start getting all cocky again.

Jets in a bye week...

Two weeks of speculation. The New York Post is drooling with anticipation.

The team has a winning record, and has beaten a couple of good teams in the process. Perhaps the injury to Sanchez was a blessing in disguise, but they are going with a rookie who sometimes plays like a rookie, and they've had more success than most had anticipated.

I'm not a Jets fan, but I'll give credit where it's due, and Rex has exceeded expectations so far this year.

Looked at their schedule and it is conceivable they could win 5 or 6 of their last 7 games. If they have a 10 win season and Idzik fires him, it is Idzik who be on the HOT seat next year.

Rex isn't going anywhere. If they make the playoffs - and they quite possibly will , He'll get an extension.

+1

The meaningless news stories will fill the air. The consensus was Rex had to lead the Jets into the playoffs, and probably have to win a playoff game, to be safe. Nothing happens about his future until after the season.

It sounds like Rex and Idzik aren't exactly the best of friends. The circus continues.

And after the roustabouts clean the elephant doody from the ring, the next act will be the "Vote of Confidence."

Rex has done his best job this year, he will have no problem finding work! He just might choose not to resign with The Jets!!!

Rex isn't Idzik's guy, and I'm guessing Idzik believed it would be an easy decision for him to fire Rex before New Year's. Right now, it's not looking quite like the slam-dunk a lot of us thought it might be.

I'm betting there's a lot of drooling that goes on at the Post, no matter what time of year it is.

That win against the Pats a couple of weeks ago was their Super Bowl. If they went oh-fer the rest of the season, the J-E-T-S could just package that game film as their 2013 season highlights, and the fans probably would not mind.

wow- a jet thread- and no sign of the word 'sucks'

We're saving up for the next time there's a J-E-T-S/Sanchez thread.

I was thinking the same thing before I even read your post. You'd hear the chants of olde if Sanchez were starting, even if they had the same record.

Looks like all the usual suspects are forced to find new material now that "circus Jests" and "Jets Suck!" rings a bit hollow.
