Flacco's reputation flagging again

07:18 AM ET 11.06 | On the one hand, Joe Flacco changed his reputation with a strong playoff run and a title this past February. But he still hasn't climbed the final mountain for NFL quarterback greatness: He can't play at a high level for 16 games. Last Sunday in Cleveland, Flacco played one of the worst halves of football of his career. ... The Ravens offense couldn't connect down the field largely because Flacco wasn't shooting straight. Flacco throws in these head-scratchers four to five times a year, often on the road. It's part of the reason he's never put up great regular season stats. His streakiness paid off with an epic Super Bowl run and a monster contract, but it hasn't gone away this season. He's struggled with the blitz and can't rise above his mediocre teammates.

"Hi Joe... Let's talk about re-negotiating that contract."

Cincy will give him fits on Sunday.

He had three good games last year. If the idiot owner thinks $100 million is worth being good only thrice, it's his money to throw away.

"...and can't rise above his mediocre teammates."

And his teammates can't seem to rise above their mediocre quarterback.

JaMarcus Russell Syndrome. Get the big bucks, lose the motivation. Laugh all the way to the bank.

H e signed the mega contract and now he do's what all players do after that he just sits back and gets by , don't want to get hurt so you couldn't enjoy all that money.

I hope so......

That was one bad looking football team against the Brownies...

November 6, 2013  08:21 AM ET

Flacco got the money he earned by winning the SuperBowl and by the front office hedging its bet by not getting a deal done until his contract was up. Both sides gambled and Flacco won.

There are probably at least 5 teams that would take his contract right now and be happy.

Jason Campbell looked fast as ever.

I think the weight of that contract has thrown him off balance a bit.

Either that or the Ravens' defense got real slow real quick.

No Flacco fan, but let's be honest here.

ALL QB's, including Payton, Brady, et. al., throw WTF interceptions time-to-time. The great ones bounce right back, though.

Second, who does he have to throw to? The front office screwed him there.

That was predicted with the aging-out of Ray Lewis and Ed Reed.

Joe is Joe, he has his good days and his Sloppy Joe Days!!!

And he got 50 million guaranteed. Made out like a bandit.

Flacco is a franchise quarterback, even if he's not elite. He got that much money because he played his best at the perfect time, and the market demanded that paycheck.

Everyone knew he would still have bouts of inconsistency, but many hoped that this year they would be less frequent, or less drastic. So far, that change has not occurred.

The Ravens are struggling in many areas right now. This is usually when you hope your franchise quarterback can scrape something together, but that's not happening. But Flacco is far from the only problem right now. He's got a lot of career left, and he needs to show improvement by the end of contract year 3, or he could go somewhere else.

True, but his big payday is part of the reason the team hasn't been able to address the other problems.
