07:14 AM ET 11.07 | By his own admission, New Orleans Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma's knee was apt to say, "No mas." [Vilma] was placed on injured reserve Wednesday, ending the veteran's season and leaving his future up in the air. Cornerback Chris Carr, who was initially cut to make room for Vilma on the active roster, was re-signed this week. The 31-year-old Vilma, a Saints team captain from 2009-12 is in the final year of his contract. He's been with New Orleans since 2008, when they acquired him in an offseason trade with the New York Jets. ... Vilma has long since dealt with knee injuries, which landed him on the physically-unable-to-perform list last season. He has undergone four procedures on the knee since Nov. 2011. He has not played a full 16-game season since 2010.

He can kiss that hall of fame dream good bye. Perhaps his career is over.

I hope he gets healthy. But I expect the SAINTS to use the younger, cheaper LBs they currently have that seem to be playing well. At least they won't set another NFL record for defensive futility this year.

The press conference concluded in chaos after a middle-aged Mississippi farmer ran from the crowd and dove at Vilma's knee.
