07:17 AM ET 11.07 | Another day, another few twists in a Jonathan Martin-Richie Incognito story that keeps finding new ways to land in the headlines. Per multiple league sources, Dolphins G.M. Jeff Ireland received a call from Martin's agent, Rick Smith, before Martin left the team on October 28. Smith complained to Ireland about the manner in which Incognito was treating Martin. Ireland, according to the sources, suggested to Smith that Martin physically confront Incognito. Ireland specifically mentioned that Martin should "punch??? Incognito. Reached for comment by phone on Wednesday night, Dolphins senior V.P. of media relations Harvey Greene reiterated to PFT the position that there will be no public comment from the team on any aspect of the situation, given the league's pending review.

They need to blow this team up from the front office down to the guy that cuts the grass and start over.......they are a mess.

Philbin is an idiot to tolerate hazing. He should know better. He came from the Packers where McCarthy doesn't tolerate that kind of crap.

Incognito and Martin should each punch Ireland, shake hands and go have a beer together. Make Ireland pay for the beer.

Problem solved.

Has Mr Ireland ever been Terrorized? Unless he has he can't understand the feelings one has!He owes it to his players to protect them!

punch Incognito in the mouth.....sounds like a great idea, and all this crap would have disappeared. Probably the way it is handled in 99.99% of all locker rooms.

Ireland needs to go. Today. Before the sun goes down. Assuming it's true, of course, but a GM who TELLS a guy to fight is not worthy of his job, Not even in the NFL where virtually no standards exist. What a complete debacle.

Sometimes punching someone in the mouth makes things worse. I punched a bully in the mouth once when I was in school, thinking it would end it, but it didn't, it made it worse.

Gave the right advice. This in not an office work place. Sometimes to get respect from teammates and player giving you a hard time is standing up for yourself. 30 second scrap would have earned his respect for the remainder of his time on the team.

This story gets stranger by the hour. Last night ESPN reported that current and former Dolphins players were defending Incognito against charges of racism because he was considered an "honorary" black person. Go figure.
