07:24 AM ET 11.07 | Cincinnati may take on a very new look in 2015. With $50 million freed up from an upcoming Brandon Phillips trade -- "He's gone," one executive said Tuesday -- and the departure of Bronson Arroyo and Shin-Soo Choo, the Reds have a decent amount of payroll flexibility, even if they extend Homer Bailey, Johnny Cueto or Mat Latos, all of whom will hit free agency within the next two years. While the Reds control [Jay Bruce] through 2017 with three guaranteed years at $34.5 million and a team option for $13 million, the prospect of a pre-emptive extension isn't far-fetched, not when it's precedent for players with premium skills. At age 26, three years into a six-year extension with an option -- exactly where Bruce is -- Troy Tulowitzki tore up his deal and signed a 10-year, $157.5 million contract with Colorado

The Reds need to keep Phillips and bat him in between votto and Bruce in their lineup.

QUOTE(#3):

I don't think many people were saying Votto was leaving. Just more that the big deal it would take to keep him would be very uncharacteristic of the Reds.Phillips is coming off a down season, has $50 mil on his deal left and apparently doesn't have the best relationship with upper management. He's pushing thirty. If they can't deal him now, they never will. And it's clear they can't really add pieces they really need with so much being spent on him and JV.

He'd be a more affordable option for the Dodgers than a Robinson Cano would be.

Be more affordable for the Yankees, too.

I don't think the Yankees have anything of interest to send to the Reds.

The guy had an off year and a large contract, how much of the contract will Cincy eat, they have lowered his value by their execs opening their mouth. That being said,it won't take a lot for a team who needs a second baseman to give up!
