Knicks' worst-case is worse than you think

07:22 AM ET 11.08 | Knicks fans might understandably worry that any prolonged slump this season may impact Carmelo Anthony's decision -- but it could be worse. New York must convey a fully unprotected first-round pick to Melo's old friends back in Denver in June ... so missing the postseason would obviously make that a lottery pick for the Nuggets. Based on the terms of the original Melo trade in February 2011, New York is required to send its 2014 first-round pick to Denver no matter where it falls. The Nuggets then have to send the worse of two picks -- either its own 2014 first-rounder or New York's -- to Orlando as a condition of the four-team Dwight Howard blockbuster in August 2012. So that means Orlando, in the stunning event that the Knicks and Nuggets both unexpectedly miss the playoffs, would thus inherit one of Denver's two lottery picks in one of the most-anticipated NBA lotteries ever.

Walsh had us on a good path... but Dolan had to mess it up! I wish he can be forced to sell the team or give it up in shame...

GM Rob Hennigan is a sharp cookie. He did a nice job transforming Orlando after the mess Otis made here. A 1st rounder from NY/Denver then Philly's next year and the Lakers the following year as well as some second rounders.

You got your savior. Otis was another isiah...

Far too many Knicks threads this week.

Tanking Is Not An Option, Bros.

Hennigan is he smartest GM Orlando has ever had. He really knows talent.

He knows talent but he also knows how to use the cap wisely unlike Otis who just spends just for the sake of spending...

Knicks will most likely make the playoffs but I see it as a lower seed. 6-8. The east overall did get better but there are some bad average at best teams. They will end up like 42-40 sneaking in the playoffs.

1. Miami
2. Indy
3. Bulls
4. Nets
5. Pistons
6-8 (Atlanta,Knicks, Wash, Toronto) Three out the four will make it. I have more faith in Pistons than Cleveland (Bynum) and I don't see 4 teams from that divison making it. I also see someone with a losing record making the playoffs. Atlanta and Toronto look like teams that could make some trades so really those last spots are up for grabs.
