Diamondbacks owner: We owe Dodgers payback

09:03 AM ET 11.09 | Turns out that a few weeks away from the pool have not dried the tears of the Arizona Diamondbacks. First, the Diamondbacks whined about how the Dodgers celebrated the National League West championship by jumping into the pool at Chase Field. Then their general manager took offense to the Dodgers' banana-fueled enjoyment of Juan Uribe's amazing feats. The Dodgers and Diamondbacks open next season in Australia, perhaps with a Great Rumble Down Under. The teams had one epic fight last season, and maybe the Diamondbacks privately wish for payback. Or, not so privately. Here is Ken Kendrick, the Diamondbacks' managing general partner, talking to his team's website about the heightened rivalry with the Dodgers: "We owe those guys," Kendrick said. "I think to get the opportunity to begin the payback for them winning the division the very first day of the season is a great opportunity for us." The Diamondbacks finished last season at .500, for the second consecutive year. That seems to leave enough opportunity on its own.

The pool thing was a pretty classless move, but these guys need to get over it. Play better baseball and it won't be an issue.

WWJ, I agree, it was classless move by the Dodgers and the Diamondbacks need to play better baseball. I remember in 1962, when Maury Wills stole a then-record 104 bases, No. 104 coming in Candlestick Park despite the Giants trying to slow him down by watering the basepaths so much it was like running in quicksandand. I guess it is just part of baseball. :-)

Agreed. If you don't want a team to celebrate in your ballpark, do like the Giants did to the Dodgers on the last game of the season in 1982. Knocked the Dodgers out of the pennant race on the strength of an 8th inning three-run home run by Joe Morgan. The Dodgers certainly didn't celebrate that day....

Daaaaaaamn. A lot of the commenters on FN weren't even born in 1982, Willie!!!!

Then they should appreciate the history lesson. If the kids would appreciate more contemporary examples, I could certainly regale them with the stories of the 1991 and 1997 seasons, both of which also ended with the Giants knocking the Dodgers out of contention. Good times.

This is true. Quite a few fans that comment on FN, don't know the history of baseball. :-)

Geez, Louise, are they still crying about this almost 2 months later? Deal with it boys and do something about it on the field.

Or better yet don't put a freaking swimming pool in an MLB ball park.

Awwww, were the Dodgers mean to you by finishing above the Giants this year?
The pool thing would only be classless to the team it was happening too or to fans who are just bitter because they have no lives to speak of.

That was awesome as it gave the Braves the division.

Except that in 1991 the Giants finished with 16 less wins so only a fan that has no life would think that 1991 as something to be proud of.

Oooh! Lookee! I got a fan!

It was classless because it was classless. Only a fan of a classless team would fail to recognize that.
