09:12 AM ET 11.09 | Oilers General Manager Craig MacTavish has been a busy man this evening, pulling the trigger on a trade that sent veteran defenceman Ladislav Smid to Calgary for prospects and agreeing to terms on a one-year deal with goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov. The GM said that tonight, things just fell together for them. As for the addition of Bryzgalov, MacTavish says that the team is getting another goaltending option and one who is highly motivated and ready to succeed. "We get a goaltender that has a history of being a high-performer in parts of his career and we get a guy who I think that's very motivated and he's going to have a chance to be a good goalie."

In contrast to the dancing pole, which I'm sure he saw a lot of in Vegas.

Must be motivated cuz he's closer to home...

He did take the Yotes to the playoffs twice, but couldn't get by the Wings who are tough in them. If he gets a decent 'D' you never know.

Maybe he'll see Sarah Palin from his back yard

Well, he found the one place with a worse defence than Philly. Well done, Ilya.

The Oilers' organization thank you for describing that mess as a defense.

MacTavish continues Oilers woes in the crease. He is the cheapest choice??? that is all. He will not improve their fortunes. Especially after dealing their most experienced blue liner to a divisional rival.

Just finished watching the 1st period and, I can tell you, the Oilers look really motivated to make the Flyers look like Stanley Cup contenders. Diva Dubnyk is a disaster and the team around him is sleepwalking and managing to provide the cure for what ails the Flyers ... at least for today.

He'll be able to see a Russian Tea House from his front porch or ... at least smell pierogies cooking down the street in Edmonton.

And, the incredibly soft Oilers defense just got a whole lot softer without Lady Smid, their only d-man worth a lick.

Just finished watching the battle of losers. The Oilers did manage to make the Flyers like world beaters. They even made it possible for a couple of Flyers to break out of their slumps. A truly disgusting display of ineptness by a bunch of soft, disinterested, heartless millionaires. These Oilers are going nowhere but to another 1st overall pick this summer.
