10:33 AM ET 11.10 | Any chance that Stephen Drew might accept the Red Sox' one-year, $14.1 million qualifying offer gets more and more unlikely by the day. (The deadline to accept the offer is Monday at 5 p.m.) According to a source familiar with the situation, "a bunch of teams (are) moving quick" on Drew in the free agent market. It is unclear what level of interest the Red Sox have expressed in the shortstop other than extending the qualifying offer.

The BoSox are in a good situation here; either they sign him or they get a high draft pick to use for a trade, or pick.
With Boegarts ready to step in as SS they have good flexibility.

I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up being a Cardinal.

I still get the feeling Boston does not want to play Bogaerts at SS. If that's the case Drew will be a very valuable asset until Deven Marrero is ready.

Bogaerts has 3rd base written all over him.

yep, I agree.

Bogearts at 3rd or SS works, so they don't have to pay too much for Drew if the bidding gets too high.

I think the Cardinals are much more likely to sign Drew than Peralta. They want offense but still see short as a primarily defensive position. They Cardinals have trade chips; but, they also have lots of payroll coming off the books. They'd like to keep those young players if at all possibe. I think they are going to sign offense at short or in center.

am i missing something, or why would any team pay drew, of all people, $14.1M or more per year? why would the red sox want to offer him $14.1M? he is above average defensively, but he hits at around .235. he doesn't draw fans with charisma to a club, so he doesn't make $$$ for a team. these salaries are way out of hand if an average player is making anywhere near that much...and they are!

Who is the Source that is claiming a "bunch of teams" want Drew? Scott Boreass, his Agent?
Drew is, at best, a platoon player who can hit from one sid of the plate and field his position adequately. The "Qualifying Offer" is far more than he's worth. He'a an adequate AL player who might be better in the baby NL.

Position players tend to see inflated numbers when they move from the NL to the junior circuit, not the other way around. Not sure what game you've been watching over the last 40 years...

The Nippon Ham Fighters, Doosan Bears, Pyongyang Capitalist Killers...three of the dozens of team that are after Drew.

You're not missing anything -- you're spot-on.

Drew actually hit just fine for a SS last season...slugged .443 (quite a bit higher than the hobbled Pedroia) and had a decent .333 OBP.

Drew will get a big payday! !!

I dont know what you are referring to when you mention charisma. There are very few players in either league that get signed based on drawing fans with their personality. It just doesn't happen. Players have to produce. As for Drew he is above average defensively and had a good regular season hitting. He didn't come through in the playoffs hitting but his defense was great. He will get paid. But charisma is not factored into deals. Think about how many players get traded and the team trading them agrees to pay some of the salary just to get rid of them. It's all about production especially in baseball with roster spots so limited.

I think Drew agent its making all this mockery though,,

No and no!!

Why would St.L. want Drew they already have an above average defensive SS that can hit .230 in Kozma. That is the reason they want to upgrade at SS. Borass as a much higher opinion of Drew's worth than rest of ML teams. If Borass is smart h would see if Boton would sign him or the 14.1mil.
