What the Yankees don't need

07:18 AM ET 11.11 | Entering the GM meetings in Orlando, Brian Cashman may have a long list of needs, but, he says, a first baseman isn't on it. Though it had been thought the Yankees may need a caddy for Mark Teixeira next season as the veteran comes back from right wrist surgery, the Yankees GM dispelled that notion. "I'm looking for a lot of things, but a first baseman isn't one of them," Cashman said. "I saw Mark recently and he said he was doing well and seems to be recovering nicely. So there's no reason to think he can't be a regular first baseman next season." Teixeira is just one of the Yankees coming off a disastrous 2013. He played in just 15 games because of a torn tendon sheath in his left wrist originally suffered during the World Baseball Classic. He opted not to have surgery.

The real question, is he looking for a SS?

The nice thing about Jeter is that he will know when he can't do it anymore. He is too proud to stay too long. Based on their other SS options, that time isn't now.

Do they have sports coverage in Canada?

I'm pretty sure they do. They don't carry the YES Network unfortunately but I'm good with the coverage in NJ.

Hey, norman, yesterday you said Choo should get a Victorino contract around $39m. Care for a one week avatar bet on it? Over/Under at $75m, and I'll take the over?

Sure, I'll take that. He'll get more than Victorino, but $75M is too much IMO. I'd say 4 years at somewhere between 15-17M per.

Really. As I was reading it, I was thinking that he can't be serious, but on the other hand, the post isn't dripping with sarcasm, so I'm not sure.He should have done something like: "The nice thing about Jeter is that he will know when he can't do it anymore, as evidenced in the way that he graciously moved over to 3B, or a corner outfield spot when he wasn't cutting it defensively at SS. Wait. What?"

After watching a season of what they trotted out to SS in 2013? Nunez can't hit and is an error machine. They had a half dozen other guys that didn't hit .200. Look, Jeter is no way near what he was but he is still better than the motley crew they had last season. If he's healthy, I'd wager he hits .270 which is a huge upgrade from what they had last year.

A tendon sheath injury is what ruined Nomah's career, he was an awesome line drive machine to all fields with a good wrist and was desperately trying to loft flies over The Monster after the injury. Teix may come back strong, but that's a scary place to get hurt.

QUOTE(#11):

The reason they have that "motley crew" of SS's is because they don't look for better options because Jeter won't give up the spot. If he told Cashman that he's willing to move to where ever the team needs him most, Cashman would go out and get a better defensive option.Regarding his hitting, that isn't the problem. The guy can hit. If he's healthy, I'd wager that he'd be well above .270. The problem is his defense. They could keep his bat in the lineup and move him to a less critical defensive position.

Even Joe D moved to 1B when Casey told him to.
Of course, he had his mobster friends personally threaten to kill every member of Stengel's extended family unless he was moved back, but he did play some first.

You're thinking of Cano, not Jeter.

I bet Jeter's done just what you're thinking of to Nina.
AND gave her a nice gift basket and a free ride home.
