Frontrunners in the Beltran sweepstakes

07:31 AM ET 11.13 | Clearly, there's a lot of money to spend in baseball these days, something Marlon Byrd found out Monday in a move that has direct impact on Carlos Beltran and Curtis Granderson. The market for Beltran, a potential Hall of Famer, could become frenzied, with one executive predicting that the 36-year-old (the same age as Byrd, incidentally) would land at least a three-year, $42 million deal. ... The Yankees are very interested in Beltran, but are facing early competition from the Texas Rangers. According to two major league executives familiar with the process, the Rangers have been doing background work on Beltran, and could become serious suitors. Another executive pointed to mutual interest between Beltran and the Red Sox, although that does not appear to have as much early momentum as Beltran-to-Texas chatter.

Texas would be good for keeping those old bones warm.

(first attempted post today failed, bad sign)

Maybe if they paid him $3million per season for 10 years and just assumed he would go on the DL permanently at age 40 it would work out for both sides...Carlos gets his money somewhat deferred and the Yanks keep the AAV down for '14.

Post #4 is not really serious, BTW.

Every year, there's one guy who tries to get way too much and ends up on the outside looking in with a 1 year deal.

This year, Beltran may be that guy.

Whoever land's Carlos will have very deep pockets, The Phillies made sure of that!!!

I can see him getting 3 years for 40 to 45 million from an AL team. I hate to see him go; but it's best for everyone if he moves to the AL to finish his career. I don't see the Sox as a good fit since they have Ortiz. Beltran needs a lot of games as DH.

Not the Red ones.

At least I hope not. He won't hold up in the outfield for a full season and when Ellsbury leaves, they are going to need to fill that. It's either Jackie Bradley Jr or a free agent.

Byrd did awfully well for a 4th outfielder who's closer to 40 than 30.

Home resting today.

Bruins are finally playing they way they should.

Pats are rolling with flotsam and jetsam playing defense.

Montreal sucks.

true, but a nice city to visit, and less than 1/4 of the rioting of Vancouver

Yeah, I had to get a flu shot because of where I work.

So, I go to the Burlington MA CVS, get the shot and get greeted with these words.

"Wow, we don't normally see blood".

Idiots. Can't even give a shot right. Blood dripped down my arm from a flu shot. Had a bruise the size of a silver dollar just below my shoulder. They "missed" the target by about 3 inches.

Also, I was just speaking of the Canadiens. Their fans are fun to torment though.

Hey. It's MA. What would you expect?
