'Package deal' duo to make history Friday

07:34 AM ET 11.13 | Tick-tock. Jahlil Okafor and Tyus Jones, Duke's top two recruiting priorities, will announce their decision Friday at 4 p.m. EST at their respective high schools. Okafor, the No. 1 overall recruit for the class of 2014, is a 6-foot-10, 265-pound center from Chicago Whitney Young High. Jones, the No. 4 overall recruit and top point guard, stands 6-foot-1 and hails from Minnesota's Apple Valley High. Jones has been the only point guard Duke has targeted in the last two years. The two, who became fast friends thanks to the AAU circuit and USA Basketball, have pledged to play together in college for years, calling themselves a package deal. There hasn't been such a deal with non-related recruits since Greg Oden and Mike Conley chose Ohio State together in 2006, but they were from the same high school.

Once again this proves my NCAA Bball thesis. The # 1 player again is a Chicago HS kid. What is this now 10 out of the last 12 yrs. Last yr. Jabari Parker, Derrick Rose, Evan Turner, it just keeps on going. Chicago is the epicenter of hoops.

Just give me first choice to fill my D1 roster out of Cook County, IL and I would be in the final four every single yr. The list is endless.

On another note why they go to a loser school like Puke is beyond me.

Coach K another Chicago product.

So if the Illini would hire a decent HC/recruiter...

They can return to prominence

"Jones has been the only point guard Duke has targeted in the last two years." I find this hard to believe but if it's true, Duke is making a big mistake.

What high school football is in Texas and Florida, high school basketball is in Chicago. If you are the top player in the city it's a good bet your one of the top in the country.

Illinois has trouble recruiting in Chicago because they don't wink, wink, nod, nod at academics. Most of the kids coming out of Chicago have AAU/middlemen handlers looking for the "best" one and done opportunity. Illinois won't play that game.

There is some truth to that Sparty but that is still a broad generalization. Jabari Parker (was betw Puke and MSU) went to Puke. Now another Chicago kid going to Puke.

You are right about Parker. We were in the hunt for Okafor until he recently dropped us from his consideration list. That drew a public response from Izzo about Chicago middlemen. Parker said he picke Duke over us because of the better academics. If he sticks around for a degree, I'll believe him. If he's a one and done, Duke is in tight with the shaddies of CBB.
