Alabama fighting 'relief syndrome'

07:36 AM ET 11.13 | Spirits were understandably high in the Alabama locker room Saturday night, courtesy blowing past rival LSU for a 38-17 win. Coach Nick Saban's speech dealt mostly with that, but there was something extra at the end. "He came in there and said told us he was real proud of us and then he mentioned about last year, after we won this game, what happened after we won that game," linebacker Trey DePriest said. "So we can't have that relief syndrome." ... "You cannot take things for granted," Saban said. "There can't be any kind of relief syndrome that, 'We got by that game.' I think the most important thing -- and I think this last game sort of showed that -- the team we want to be is the team we were in the second half, an aggressive team that's trying to control the line of scrimmage, playing aggressively."

You tell 'em, Coach Saban!

And how do YOU spell relief, JK?

Last year's faltering after the LSU game was more than just "relief syndrome." They were just plain whooped after winning a close, brutal game, and got hit with the A&M buzzsaw where they went down by three TDs early in the game.

This year's A&M game was less brutal, and Mississippi State is not A&M (even though the colors are the same).

Correction -- I meant this year's LSU game, not the A&M game. (Maybe TPTB will spend some dough and get an edit button installed?)

B-E-A-T-A-U-B-U-R-N!

Shouldn't be a problem. They changed up the schedule so not to play a tough game afterward.

Or between Sept 14 and Nov 9.

Plus, with the East as schiatty as it is, the SECCG isn't the test-of-toughness it usually is. <barf>

You are starting to sound like an Angry Weasel fan: "Our team is down, therefore, the division/conference must be down".

Hey, now, there's no call to be so nasty. ;-)

No doubt that's a big part. But, if that was the only reason, the leak would have come from the other side, not the FOIA

what was relayed to me about the meet, Little Nicky would rather build something up than try to maintain for so long

A lot of good coaches are built that way. They want the challenge of building something.

Merely "staying really good" doesn't get them charged up nearly as much, has fewer rewards and any backsliding frustrates hell outta them.

Relief is next week when Chattanooga rolls into town as the designated roll-ee.
