Kings fans, Team USA hold breath for Quick

07:39 AM ET 11.13 | In a strange twist, the Kings finally lost a shootout and Buffalo won at home -- for the first time in nine tries. But that clearly was the secondary storyline in a wildly unusual night in which the Kings lost their No. 1 goalie, Jonathan Quick, to an apparent lower-body injury with 1:20 left in overtime at First Niagara Center on Tuesday. Kings Coach Darryl Sutter indicated after his postgame news conference the planned course of action was to send Quick to Los Angeles for evaluation by team doctors. He said that was the preferred option instead of having Quick evaluated on the road. The ramifications of losing the franchise goalie for any period of time are significant for the Kings, and Quick is considered a top candidate as the starter for Team USA at the Olympics in Sochi, Russia, in February.

Goaltending alone will likely get the USA into the gold medal game in Sochi. Canada better bring a bunch of scorers because there's not one goalie I'd trust in a big game.

Here's hoping for a Quick recovery then! ;-)

And defend. And play hockey. But it's cool, because you guys are "already in the final" because of goaltending alone.

oh good... i thought it was because of NBC's need for ratings

Also, Nashville made the past two Stanley Cup finals, Buffalo is polishing its two decades worth of Eastern Conference trophies, and Detroit hasn't won a Cup since the 50s.

Quick already has vacation plans, this just sets it up.

I'd love to believe that and hope it happens, but I expect USA and Canada to be battling for bronze. The gold medal inside edge has to go to the Russians, Fins, Swedes and Czechs. North America has a history of struggles across the pond.

Canada's struggles on the big ice are more due to terrible, awful, putrid team selection than some sort of inabilty to play on it. 2006 was an awful team for Canada, especially. No Olympic team should ever have Bryan McCabe on it. Ever.

Here's hoping the trend continues, Danny. Maybe we can sneak up and grab bronze from you. :-)

Well god knows they need ratings. If it weren't for Sunday Night Football nobody would know the network exists.

NBC...........No Body Cares.
