07:20 AM ET 05.21 | If Vince Carter does sign elsewhere, Jason Kidd could ask for a trade, since he and Carter are close. Kidd also knows his ability to run the floor and dish out assists could be minimized if he doesn't have a teammate who can finish like Carter can.

This is crazy!!! Kidd is dominant with a team of guys who are on the cusp of being really good. Lawrence Frank allows Carter to dominate the ball too much for this one to work. In the half court, Kidd is relegated to a spot up shooter! This is addition by subtraction by letting Carter go but keeping Kidd. The Nets could bring in somone like Morris Peterson or Jason Kapono and actually be better!!! Those guys aren't going to be looked to to dominate the ball forcing the ball back in Kidd's hands. Don't laugh...look what Kidd took to the NBA Finals...twice: Kittles, Van Horn, Martin and McCollough with Lucious Harris, a younger Jefferson and Jason Collins off the bench. Carter (and Lawrence Frank) grind that offense down to a halt! They will be the same next year with the same cast. They weren't setting the world on fire even when Kristc was healthy.

Why would Kidd want Carter around after the no show by Carter? Maybe both of them have made a deal to go to nursing home together!

i totally agree with what kidd wants to do. Whats the point of staying in NJ if one of his closest friends and one of the leading scorers on them leaves? Besides its about time that they do leave ne way

If anything, I think Kidd wants no parts of even being close to the move to Brooklyn, and he's said as much in the past. I know that move is still a few years away, but I think Kidd feels that strongly about it. Carter leaving would be an additional 'reason' to leave for Kidd. Talking strictly basketball, Kidd will have the ball in his hands more to create which drives this team. Look at the 3rd quarter in game 6 the other night against Cleveland. They put the ball in Kidd's hands, and everything took care of itself. When Vince and RJ were just along for the ride, they scored at will. But, you cannot have Vince along for the ride at $15 mil+.

Carter will be too expensive. He's not worth the risk. He simply does not take care of business at all times. There are players making serious money who perform at all times. Kidd is actually one of them. Is Carter as valuable as Kidd? No way.

I've lost some respect after the most recent playoff performance by Carter. NJ just fell apart when he was in there making decisions. He should never at any point - unless forced - bring the ball up the court.

Carter is the new A-Rod everyone. Get something good while he is still in his somewhat prime.
Don't be like the Knicks and wait around for Ewing and his chest thumping champion wanna be's to deliver a non existant championship and then in the end get nothing for him.
Gordon Gecko said greed is good. I say change is good. So let the Nets be greedy and get the most out of a trade for V-Car.

I've always thought Vince was overrated. The dunk contest just shot him into the spotlight. He slows up the game. He has the ball has much as Kobe does but he can't score and just take over like Bryant can. He shouldn't be the backbone of any offense or team. They should delegate him to more of a role player. He is very one dimensional if you ask me. All he can do is score and hes not even great at that. Yes, he will have his 50 point games, but that only matters when it matters, not in the middle of the season. More like, hmmm........GAME 6

If I'm the Nets, I don't make an offer...even if Carter is willing to accept something lower. It needs to be pressed upon Lawrence Frank that Carter is not the solution as a go-to guy. I didn't see a lot of NJ in the regular season, but if the playoffs were a close replica of the regular season, it's easy to see why that offense bogs down, especially with 'the big 3'. Frank's coaching style needs to be forced into a more ball movement, free flowing game. Carter promotes neither

Duh y wouldn't he its not like Kidd is in his 20 anymore, the last thing I want to see is Jason Kidd take the route of Gary Payton taking a pay cut and limited to less then 15 mins a game he is a sure Hall of Famer and there is no reason why he shouldn't be treated like one, he wants to be put in the best situatuon possible to win a championship, you put Kidd on any team that has TRUE championship contention (SA, Det, DAL??,)
they win hands down heck even if you add Kidd to a borderline team like HOU, CLE then they become true contenders just that quick, as a matter of fact you put Kidd on PHX to replace Nash THEY WIN!!! period (that was just for argument purposes)

Kidd one advice, dont leave the Nets and create a strong hold team. Carter, theres always good players around, you just need to work hard with new people.

First off, Carter isn't going anywhere for more money. No team in their right mind will pay him the 20 million he wants, so he may have no choice but to remain in the Swamp. If I am Mr. Thorn, I would try to move Carter in a sign and trade, or do the same with Kidd. They have some nice young players and if they can wriggle a few prospects for either Carter or Kidd, they'll be set for the long term.

They are both quitters. They should stay with thier team , because its on the verge of better a good team. However I think Carter will go back to Toronto and that team has a lot more potential than the Nets.

Anyone who thinks Carter makes this team isn't paying attention...Kidd has built his career, and his teams, around making decent players exceptional with his technical play, and it wouldn't matter if Carter was gone- someone else would be getting quality scoring chances in his place.
Carter has been a Randy Moss on every team he's played for, and after watching the way he dogged his way out of Toronto, I've never had respect for the way he carries himself ever since.

I'm not a Net fan or a Lakers fan (infact I would say i more dislike than like both teams), but I gotta say, I'd be interested in seeing Kidd and Kobe in the same backcourt. You gotta admit, that could end up being really cool.

I can't believe Kidd would stay or leave depending on what Ms. Carter does; that's why he won't win a title despite being a great player, and that's why Steve Nash blew past him the last few years in terms of stature in the league. Nash demands excellence from his teammates, Kidd likes playing with guys that can suck for 40 minutes a game, have 3 highlight plays, and call it a game, win or lose. It still sickens me that Carter came from UNC; we should force him overseas (fit in real well in the Deutschland IV League for out-of-work Bavarians and sausage grinders).

I hope Carter comes back(for less of course). Kidd and Jefferson(with a healthy Krstic, Boone, and Williams) along with Carter and the Nets are in good shape in the East. Carter hasn't and won't get it done. But I'd love to see this team together and healthy(last year RJ, this year Krstic/RJ/etc). I honestly think if this team is together and healthy they can make a run to the Conference Championships and likely to the Finals. They had a great draft this past season, but they haven't been healthy in 3 seasons either. If they do break up the team, then ship off Kidd and Carter. They can get a ton of picks and some starters out of it, while still having a solid core to build with.

Caster-Steve Nash blew by who? Kidd? Ohhhh, that's why Nash has never led a team to the Finals right? Kidd did it twice with undermanned squads. Nash can't do it with great teams.

im sry but most of u guys just like jumping on the hate band wangen and dont look at whats real...lets settle a few debates here...first of all, steve nash has not blown by kidd in status the last couple of years. Kidd has been hurt and bc of that u wouldnt see him on SC everynight. second vince carter does not suck and has never sucked, and the slam dunk contest is not what made him...his great athletic ability and scoring made him...did anyone watch his carrer? whos always the best player on his team..ummm yea thats right carter...and thats why kidd wants him to stay bc hes part of the 3 keys to there succes...not bc kidd likes to play with bad people. and whatever idiot up top said he not good bc he can score 50 in the regular season but not playoffs should keep his mouth shut, bc incase you didnt notice the playoffs are dominated by defense in every sport...scoring by individuals is always down. in closing vince carter is a great player and jason kidd is still a very dominate PG up there with nash.

steve nash as actually mathed nash or maybe even blown past kidd. you have to admit nash runs the fastbreak as much as kidd and is the much better scorer/shooter. kidd has the edge in defense(kidd isn't that goood defensively anymore) but the bigger edge in rebounding. the difference isn't much at all.
carter is a choker and isn't worth the 3yr 60mil deal he would want
