Red Wings ready to waive another player

07:32 AM ET 11.14 | The Red Wings certainly could use a little scoring support from anyone not named Pavel Datsyuk or Henrik Zetterberg -- but it's not going to come from Gustav Nyquist. [Nyquist] leads the Grand Rapids Griffins with seven goals and 17 points in 12 games. But Red Wings general manager Ken Holland said Wednesday that the club does not have the salary-cap space or roster spot to recall Nyquist. "We got to move players to get Nyquist up," Holland said. ... As it is, the Red Wings will need to make a couple of moves to accommodate the return of defenseman Jonathan Ericsson, who is expected to come off long-term injured reserve and play Friday against the Washington Capitals at Joe Louis Arena. Jordin Tootoo, who cleared waivers last week, likely will be assigned to Grand Rapids. Patrick Eaves might be waived.

QUOTE(#1):

Send down Weiss. You won't miss his 3 points of production in 17 games...

Not just Weiss... Take your pick. Aside from Dats and Z, they've all been useless offensively.

Henrik Zetterberg 21
Pavel Datsyuk 20
Daniel Alfredsson 14
Todd Bertuzzi 9
Joakim Andersson 6
Justin Abdelkader 6
Johan Franzen 6
Stephen Weiss 3
Tomas Tatar 3
Daniel Cleary 3
Drew Miller 2
Mikael Samuelsson 1
Darren Helm 1
Cory Emmerton 1
Luke Glendening 0
Jordin Tootoo 0
Patrick Eaves 0

When Alfie and Bert aren't on a line with Dats & Z, they're useless too.

Cheer up Canuck and all other Wings fans. I have a feeling the offensive woes will end tomorrow as well as the losing streak at the Joe. Caps are on the way to help out!

Ye have little faith. ;)

Thanks Slap but the Wings should be 'waving' at a lot more than one player.

They seem to need a little less turnover, and more fat on 'D'

November 14, 2013  09:42 AM ET

Seems like the last couple years the Wings have had problems, but they still make the playoffs and they still make a run.

We'll see how closely the refs call the game.

Quincy is giving up the puck like he owed them money the other night.

Somewhere in Michigan at a RR track, there is sign, "If you can't stop in time, smile as you go by". Kind of reminds me of Howard's goalkeeping.

You're on a roll. Lovin' it!

I'd be happy if the simply called the game I'm watching.

They seem to be officiating some other game I'm not seeing.

LMAO - Ever seen the movie "Howard's End"?

Alfredsson has been a disappointment for sure.

But I think what Bertuzzi brings is more than points. I like his big body out there.

Not sure I follow the comments on Alfie. 3rd in pts. on team? What did you think you were getting, Mario Lemieux ala 92?

The Wings' on-ice player effort has not been bad. The problem is that they're not getting any fortunate bounces which is causing them to press offensively which is causing them to grip their sticks tighter which is causing unclean puck handles which is resulting in flubbed shots and turnovers.

One thing that would help this team is a trip to a Thai massage parlor.

No, but seems to have a lot of actors I like.

Wings management and fans thought Alfie would be a catalyst for secondary scoring, but he's really just been riding the coattails of Dats & Z.

They'll always be there. Starts with good upper management and trickles down

I haven't seen Bert use that big body much recently. Particularly the last few games, I've repeatedly seen Bert pull up and avoid contact on clean big hit chances.
