Rutgers player alleges bullying by defensive coordinator

09:07 AM ET 11.16 | The Rutgers athletic department released a statement Friday night in response to an NJ.com story about the alleged bullying that led cornerback Jevon Tyree to quit the football team. Tyree's parents objected to many of the points outlined in the statement. The statement indicated that Tyree's father, Mark, spoke with athletic director Julie Hermann twice in relation to the family's concern about the treatment of Jevon by defensive coordinator Dave Cohen. The statement said the first conversation between Mark Tyree and Hermann took place six months after Cohen had an altercation with Jevon Tyree during a study hall session. "I never talked to her. That is insane," Mark Tyree said. "My mother has passed and I would put my hand on a stack of Bibles in her goodness. That's ridiculous that she would even say that. That's scary."

She said she said stories never end well.

It all started with an "altercation with Jevon Tyree during a study hall session."

This is exactly why some very gooood football programs have done completely away with these study hall sessions. Nothing good comes out of them....

50, good point. This "bullying" thing is touchy. IMO, it's like boot camp in the service, some people just can't handle it. I know sometimes people go overboard.

This story has less plot structure than the Twilight series.

It's also less interesting, and that is a very difficult thing to accomplish.

And this is our newest B1G partner beginning next season. Thanks a lot, Delany. SMH

So far two fresh threads on football Saturday that deal with fighting "off the field".

Can we get some football substance please? Lazyass mods!

Mike Leach: My biggest regret was not cutting Adam James. It does simplify things and is the way forward for coaches. If the new age is mom and dad complaining and joining the discussion, then definitely, just cut the kid you have issues with....that kid is 20+ years old. Old enough.

The Feminization of football continues. Pretty soon the gatorade bucket will be replaced with juice boxes and everyone will get a trophy.

Bullying will be the legal lottery for the next decade.

Maybe coach should just drop the whole team off around midnight on the streets of Newark with no money, tell them find your way back to your dorm and they will learn what an "altercation" really is.

The ones that make it back are your team. If nothing else, they are tough.

The more I read this headline the more pissed I get. Raising a buncha wuzzes if they can't take it when a coach unloads on them.

I think Israel has a good idea in making everyone serve at least 2 years in the Armed Services and learn a little discipline...

Geez...

You know that's a tough way to make a living. There are a lot of chix making 68 on the internet. Some ****, some go doggy, some are even into fetishes, so I guess it is refreshing to see someone going old school with a straight old 69.

I'll be sure to paste that site into my browser. Thanks dude.

FN as a corrupting influence. I see your angle, BB. Great lawsuit material.

(Now, does anyone want to make bets on how long before RoboMod takes down #14?)
