11:05 AM ET 11.16 | Devils coach Pete DeBoer said defenseman Jon Merrill "took some real positive steps" this morning by skating on his own for the first time since he was injured in making his NHL debut on Nov. 3 in Minnesota. Merrill, 21, went feet first into the left corner boards after he was tripped from behind by Wild center Torrey Mitchell just 4:49 into the game. Merrill's face and head also hit the boards and he sustained lacerations on his forehead, nose and mouth that required stitches. Merrill also appeared woozy as he was helped off the ice to the locker room. Although Devils GM Lou Lamoriello said previously "every test came back negative," DeBoer confirmed today that it was a concussion that kept Merrill off the ice before today. "It's not the lacerations," DeBoer said. "It's the concussion that was holding him up."

Looks to me like it was Josefson.

Better hope he gets healthy enough to play another game...it would be a shame if the above image was the one they would have to use for his rookie card!

Speaking of concussions, did anyone see the smack down that Glass laid on Nystrom last night. Big round house right to the head and he went to the ice. When the trainer came out he held up his hand and asked how many fingers he saw. Nystrom replied "Tuesday!" Nystrom was rubber legged for a minute and they had to help him off the ice. The official word was an "upper body injury."

Maybe next time Nystrom will think twice about fighting somebody over a completely legal hit?
