ND owes Weis a thank you this week

07:35 AM ET 11.18 | Charlie Weis' name hasn't been received all that well since his departure from Notre Dame, and yet many might simply suggest folks let the era go. [There's] something new to grab onto -- perhaps the best-possible scenario, in Notre Dame's eyes anyway, among its non-BCS options this postseason. As Weis was given a Gatorade-and-ice bath Saturday afternoon and the south goalposts at Memorial Stadium were being dismantled, the former ND head coach's Kansas Jayhawks were ending a 27-game Big 12 losing streak and, in the process, opening up an at-large spot in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl Dec. 28 at Yankee Stadium. Kansas' 31-19 upset of West Virginia in Lawrence, Kan., reversing a 59-10 verdict from last season, ensured the Big 12 would have only six bowl-eligible teams this postseason.

You will soon learn to appreciate me. --- Jabba

Ahh, the irony of it all.

November 18, 2013  08:44 AM ET

Not only does ND owe Weis a thank you but several million dollars from his contract buyout as well for that fiasco..

November 18, 2013  09:07 AM ET

Jabba didn't actually get a Gatorade bath, he yawned just as the Gatorade cooler was turned his way, and the whole thing went down in one gulp. Didn't even burp.

Let that belt out a notch there Charley boy.

November 18, 2013  09:25 AM ET

Weis' survival is miraculous given his track record. Should be kanned at Kansas. Next stop Austin Peay? Some would say Peay's too good for him.

Well, Tommy Rees was actually a Charlie Weis recruit. so you can make of that what you want in the who got who best contest.

November 18, 2013  11:17 AM ET

November 18, 2013  11:22 AM ET

True, but ND fans would say , Yeah, but he was a lousy coach. Don't know, but I do know kansas was lousy for a long time before he got there. Kelly will get his chance going foward to see if he can both recruit and coach. Problem is the independent schedule and all. You get more money, you can guarantee pretty much a winning record every year, but not like competing in the big conferences.
