07:20 AM ET 11.19 | Since being acquired in September, Trent Richardson has averaged merely 2.8 yards per carry, but he's offering a vigorous defense of his game. "I'm not frustrated at all because I think I've been playing good," Richardson said. "If you turn on the film, I don't have any missed assignments. I haven't had any missed reads. I've been playing good." ... Coach Chuck Pagano seems to agree. He said Friday that Richardson has been, for the most part, a victim of circumstance, suggesting there hasn't often been room to run for Richardson. "You look at Trent's runs, for whatever reason, there's penetration (by defenders)," Pagano said. "You feel bad. A guy gets the ball handed off to him and all of a sudden, there's a guy sitting there for whatever reason."

"2.8 yards per carry" and "I've been paying good" cannot exist in the same reality.

Maybe that new regime in Cleveland is going to be OK after all.

The RB behind Richardson actually carries the ball better. Bad deal.

An average NFL RB is supposed to play good, but when teams give up 1st round draft picks, you have to do more.

Not the deal they thought it was going to be after all.

I don't think he's long for this league.

How bizarre

There still the Cleveland Browns anyway you cut them up and dice them........they came back to reality last sunday against the Bengals.

Donald Brown doesn't have these issues.

What sounds more realistic: the offensive line blocks poorly only on Trent Richardson runs -or- Trent Richardson is the problem?

My guess is he doesn't hit the holes fast enough.

They got this one right. GM of the year to get a first round pick for a fourth round talent. they are doing it right, some old messes to clean up first.

Indy is 7-3 and on top of their division. Cleveland is 4-6 and at the bottom of theirs.

Exactly. Pagano seems to have given him steam when he came out last week and said basically what Trent is now saying... no missed assignments, yada yada yada...

Irsay will send him a tweet about playing good if he needs another definition.

Would have been the case with or without the trade.

Interesting: two top college RBs (Ingram and Richardson) from the same program having trouble in the NFL. I wonder if you can make the same analogy people use for "system" QBs, and call them "system" RBs. Have to see how Lacy does in GB.

If they can stay out of jail..

Owner in abstentia. A few teams, not named, would do better that way.

November 19, 2013  10:29 AM ET

Jim Irsay should stop giving up first-round draft picks while drunk.

November 19, 2013  10:36 AM ET

Funny how all the Donld Brown Haters have short term memory deficits. Health & time for Indy's offense should clear up next seaon, allowing to focus on O-line upgrades, and continual defensive personel additions to match the new 3-4.

He's going to either be a bust or play thru it!

'for whatever reason there's penetration'
That line makes me think there's a lot more support for Donald Brown in Indianapolis then for Trent.
But Trent has always been to slow to the holes. I would definitely convert him into a FB, he has the strength and pass catching abilities to make it there in an offense that keys on play action late in games.

That's because the O-Line at 'Bama opens up massive holes. It's pretty hard to be unproductive when you have a 5' hole to run through. Ingram can't beat out Pierre Thomas for meaningful carries and Trent Richardson looks slow and plodding when watching him carry the ball and then watching Donald Brown carry the ball the next play.
