07:29 AM ET 11.19 | As of Monday afternoon, after news broke of Carlos Ruiz's deal with the Philadelphia Phillies, one might reasonably assume that somewhere Brian McCann might be smiling. [McCann's agent, BB Abbott] acknowledges that it could alter how other teams view that market. "There are certainly teams that are probably looking at the deal and think it has to impact what they're going to do in this market," Abbott said. "It doesn't change what we think of him. But it's significant in that another catcher is off the market. It's another puzzle piece that isn't out there." The fact that the Phillies were willing to guarantee three years (at $26 million, according to various reports) to a catcher who turns 35 in January can't hurt McCann's attempt to get as much security as possible in his next deal.

The Ruiz deal will probably do more for Salty than it will for McCann.

Then everybody realized that it was 7 years ago when McCann hit .333 and his value plummeted again.

The Phillies kept signing these older players they could be headed to the Fountain of Youth League.

Perhaps the Phillies are counting on a work stoppage and a 90 game season?

Regardless of what the Phillies pay Ruiz, somebody is going to grossly overpay McCann anyway.

age and the ability to perform for both players would decide which way the luck could lean,,,,,

McCann its a more complete player than salty, there are a old saying you either get quality or quantity,
salty its not such a good talented catcher,McCann has more experience behind the plate than any other catcher in the free market,,,

From McCann/Cano /Salty,the deal for McCann seems more accurate more complete as long its no more than five years though...

albastros trades and bad moves has deeped them into a pit in terms of developing top prospects,
i mean the halos lack in every area,SS none, thirdbasemen none/starters none/catchers none/relievers none/and the list goes on and on,,,

You miss the point; Salty is a comparable to Ruiz, McCann is at another level. Thus, Ruiz sets the table for Salty.

So if one team has a moron of a GM and overpays for a catcher then another GM has to do the same because that's the market? Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.

Remember the rebels. You are exactly correct. Just bc one idiot GM makes a mistake and over pays doesn't mean all GMs should follow suit. It's ridiculous how they operate. It defies all common sense
