Richards accuses players of quitting

07:33 AM ET 11.20 | Columbus didn't make things very difficult against Edmonton Tuesday night, offering up only 14 shots in a 7-0 loss. Blue Jackets defenseman Jack Johnson called it a "sh-- show." Left wing Nick Foligno said it was "disgusting." Coach Todd Richards accused several of his players of quitting in the third period. The Blue Jackets' season -- seemingly headed in the right direction after a solid win in Ottawa on Sunday -- went off the rails in stunning fashion. ... [Richards] pointed out something that really bugged him. "How we played the third period," Richards said, shaking his head. "We were just playing to run the clock out. To me, as a coach you watch certain things and certain players to see how they're going to respond in tough situations ... well, we had guys who just wanted to get the game over with."

When you can't score on Edmonton ..... I concur.

In an 82 game season, every team will have bad nights. I have not followed Coach Todd Richards before, but if that is his way of reacting to one loss, it speaks volumes to his own competency to succeed at this level.

But it won't endear him to his players.... in this age of coddling, you don't see enough of that

I would prefer the message be delivered behind closed doors, and not made public.

They thought they'd just show up, throw their sticks on the ice and leave town with two points. They never learn, do they?

It would have been much easier to give the other team credit for the win.

I wonder what they call him for short?

Exactly. If you air it out in the locker room you are trying to make the team better. If you air it out to the media you are covering your arse.

One loss? The Jackets have won only two of their last 11 games. This loss was as ugly as it gets. There's reason to panic in Columbus.
