RB controversy in Ann Arbor

07:30 AM ET 11.21 | Brady Hoke wasn't ready on Wednesday to reveal who would serve the role of featured running back when Michigan plays Iowa on Saturday. The Wolverines football coach said he wanted to get through the rest of practice this week before he makes a decision. During his midweek news conference, Hoke said Fitz Toussaint, Derrick Green and De'Veon Smith all have roles to play, but he wouldn't go into details as to what those responsibilities will be. At least part of what each does, he said, depends on what is happening in the game at any particular moment. If down and distance demand a pass, he said, "Some of (the backs) may be better (than others)." Toussaint didn't play last Saturday at Northwestern after suffering a concussion in practice. That opened the door for Green and Smith. The freshmen took advantage.

So how is this a controversy? Hoke has planned to use his freshmen backs all year. Toussaint is a senior. It's time to start developing next year's running backs.

Neaux. They'll just put up another HS pic of Coach K or something stoopid like that, I say let that sleeping dog lie.

Be it a Texan's take on surfer lingo or a comment on women's intimate apparel, this statement lacks context and isn't easily understood.

Getting a little late in the season for a rb controversy. I smell panic in Ann Arbor.

Union Jack or Southern Cross? Tough choice.

TSUN bashing is so autopilot among the FN CFB regulars (mea culpa) that we do not take into consideration that every team we follow has more than one RB getting carries in any given game. Concussed, Toussaint needs to sit out longer. Hoke has RBs ready to take snaps, but if he's looking to toss a wrench into the machinery, he can design a few plays with a backup LB or ST player lined up in the backfield.

I miss the "good" Angry Weasels fans, the ones who represented Big Blue is the same manner as many among us represent our own fandom. Return to FN! Post again, ye followers of the winged helemts!

Michigan is horrible. And I graduated from UM and am a huge Wolverines fan. The offense is embarrassing. I thought Devin Gardner was going to be great after the Notre Dame game, but he has stunk since then. What a waste of a year. Someone has to go (like offensive coordinator).

Welcome to FN. There are several other fans of your school that frequent these boards. Haven't heard from them lately. Hope you stick around. Always good to have a fellow B1G poster on the threads.

I will post about Michigan if they are being discussed. Not so much being discussed these days with UM football. Thank goodness the basketball team has regained some respect. I am not used to Michigan not being ranked in the top 10 in football, much less not being ranked at all. I was there for Elvis, Desmond, Griese, Woodson (two degrees: one undergrad, one grad). I saw Bo. We were always highly ranked. I am a Big Ten fan now, lost the animosity toward other teams in the Big Ten (although I have to admit that when Ohio State gets arrogant, it is annoying).
