07:32 AM ET 11.21 | Nearly 20 years have passed now -- since the autumn of 1995, in fact. The Quebec Nordiques of this pro hockey league moved to Denver -- and the Colorado Avalanche came to life that fall. And on Sept. 1, 1995, a boy was born who'd become the Avalanche's franchise-player-in-waiting, the No. 1 pick in 2013, this wunderkind wonder kid. "The last four or five games, he's almost been our best player," said Avs coach Patrick Roy of rookie forward Nathan MacKinnon. "Every time he's there, something happens. From a fan perspective, it's got to be fun to watch. He's going to draw a lot of people to our building to watch. Honestly, he's fun to watch, and he's so receptive to teaching -- he wants to learn. I'm very impressed with him."

It was an interesting pick at no. 1, although you could not go wrong with the first 3 in this draft

So Sept. 1st, 1995 was labour day?

I only watched the kid when he played against Pittsburgh and he was impressive.

That's because they know when to hold them, unlike Hitchcock who rides the whip and at the end of the season, players have nothing more to give.

I didn't know one of the clauses in Patrick Roy's contract required him to sell tickets.

Patience, my friend. It's a long season. Meanwhile, you might be able to find some coming relief watching the Flames play. :-)
