07:29 AM ET 11.22 | Among the least effective passing attack in the NFL, it sure could use Michael Crabtree, and he has taken another important step near a return. Coach Jim Harbaugh said the wide receiver"s performance this week will determine how soon Crabtree returns to the active roster and, eventually, to the playing field. ... [Crabtree] worked out by himself last week. He again was working by himself at the start of Thursday"s session. That, however, turned out to be an extended warmup period for the receiver, and he later joined teammates at practice. The team has until Tuesday to remove him from the PUP list and place him on the 53-man squad. Harbaugh said that move could occur sooner than that, leaving a possibility, at least, that Crabtree could play Monday night against the Washington Redskins in Landover, Md.

Is it the fault of receivers or the QB that their passing game is ineffective?

November 22, 2013  07:43 AM ET

What a headcase. Good luck relying on him for the offense.

For the 49ers sake he better, he's the go to guy for Kaepernick. Speedy guy has been M.I.A.

When Crabtree was drafted, I thought he would be doing the numbers similar to what Calvin Johnson would later put up. It took him 3 years to be a star. Now after the injury, does he have the determination to be the star he was... ? Jury's out on this one.

I'll toast and jelly to that.

Broken foot, achilles surgery. That's difficult to come back from in a timely manner.

Crabtree was a beast in college. Leach made his receivers run in sand pits and up hillsides pulling dead weight. His receivers had the strongest legs and ankles in the game.

Now in his fifth year he has had one year worth note, last year. The 49ers did not get their $32 million moneys worth on this one. He is UFA after next year, and even then 2014 is a voidable year in his contract.

At around $4 million next year and him looking for an extension, I would wait on this guy if I ran that team.

Crabtree is an injury waiting to happen. He was drafted injured and they are serious injuries. He might be moved after next season.

I have a hunch we will soon find out.

Could be both.

LOL!!!! He was their only legitimate passing threat last season. Him and Boldon on the field at the same time is gonna give the rest of the league headaches. You can't shut both of these guys down. It's a matter of picking your poison at this rate.

All I know is Kap looks very ordinary right now. Hard to believe it's the same guy who looked like the Second Coming last year.

November 22, 2013  09:30 AM ET

Wait, what does all this actual football nonsense have to do with important stuff like the Martin-Incongnito drama?

November 22, 2013  10:29 AM ET

I can't see him jumping right back on the roster and having the speed to burn the defense and the timing down with his QB to be a success. Maybe after a month back on the roster. If they can get to the playoffs without him, they'll be a different offense once he is back up to speed.

I can see him hobbling into Thanksgiving dinner on crutches.

Who woulda thunk SF would be fighting for the #5 seed with Carolina.

November 22, 2013  11:16 AM ET

But can Crabtree keep the game from being handed to the 49ers opponents by bad calls?

Good point, with all the demonstrated concern and compassion from the NFL and coach's every where I am sure they wouldn't bring him too ealy.
