Carlyle fueling goalie controversy

07:47 AM ET 11.22 | How long can something like anointing a No. 1 wait? If head coach Randy Carlyle's words are true, don't bank on that happening for quite some time. Jonathan Bernier, 8-1 in his career against the Nashville Predators before the game, and coming off a 36-save shutout in the Music City earlier this season, got the call Thursday. Considering that was Bernier's second consecutive start, it seems probable that James Reimer will get the nod Saturday at home to the Washington Capitals. One comes out, the other comes in. It has been this way all season. But will it continue to be this way? ... Ultimately, Carlyle says, he'll make that call. "I look at all things, and when all else fails I ask other people their opinion," Carlyle said in summing up how he decides who starts each night. "Not (the media.) Sorry."

No rush for a number one to be named. Both are playing well, be happy with that.

Lots of teams would be thrilled to have such a problem. Maybe Carlyle should let the media think they have a "vote" setting the lineup :S

November 22, 2013  08:16 AM ET

The "media" is still clamoring for them to dress Jeff Ware.

it gives the media something to do

No rush but one of them could be a good asset come trade time.

When you constantly get played in the second game of back-to-backs you're #2.

Sorry Optimus, you're it.

They aren't playing Reimer enough. I don't know what more he needs to do. He was great last season, fantastic in the playoffs, and has been terrific every game he has played this year. I wouldn't be surprised if he asks for a trade. They are not being fair to him.

I would say they have already made Bernier the starter, which is wrong. There should be no starter yet.

Goalie controversy, and it isn't coming from Philly?

Bernier is getting more starts than Reimer, even though Reimer has the better numbers. It doesn't make sense, except to say that its Toronto, what else do you expect. Maybe Rob Ford could decide who starts.

no, can't be Philly. Both of these seem to be able to stop the puck with some regularity (early Phantom tweak)
