10:04 AM ET 11.24 | They fan out to the N.H.L.'s 30 rinks across the continent, a small group of hockey executives watching game after game, deciding which players might represent the United States at the Sochi Olympics. Of those decisions, none will be more crucial than picking the goaltenders. It is not yet clear who they will select to guard the nets for the Americans, and for some, that uncertainty might be disconcerting. David Poile, the United States' general manager for Sochi, oversees the selection process. He has identified six contenders for three roster spots: Ryan Miller of Buffalo, Jimmy Howard of Detroit, Cory Schneider of the Devils, Ben Bishop of Tampa Bay, Jonathan Quick of Los Angeles and Tim Thomas of Florida. None has distinguished himself as clearly as Miller did four years ago during the run-up to the Vancouver Games.

That David Poile is quite the comedian. Jimmy Howard? I'm still pissing myself laughing.

Actually none of the goalies named sounds all that great. Anybody in the AHL, or Juniors we could use?

Beat me to it. Wings still looking for a goalie was what I wanted to say.

Team Canada is dealing with the same thing, the short list of goalies doesn't impress the way it used to. The fact Luongo is now pretty much a lock to start says a lot.

Bishop is worth a look and Schneider has played great, just no goal support. That's #1 and 2 IMO.

Miller is still good, and I have him in that mix, but not sure where.......not the W column though! ;)
