Scherzer still on the block

07:28 AM ET 11.25 | Somewhat logically, the Tigers' trade of Prince Fielder was interpreted as a move to create room to re-sign righty Max Scherzer. The theory assumes that Scherzer's agent, Scott Boras, is eager to negotiate an extension with the pitcher entering his free-agent year. In reality, Boras always prefers elite talents such as Scherzer to determine their values on the open market. The Tigers, meanwhile, also might be pondering an extension for Miguel Cabrera. ... So, why should the chances of them trading Scherzer be any less than they were before? The Tigers are in the same place with their rotation that they were prior to trading Fielder. They've got six starters for five spots, a desire to stick left-hander Drew Smyly in the rotation and a willingness to move a righty -- Scherzer, Rick Porcello or Doug Fister.

Too Young to be a Yankee! !!

If I am management and had to deal of them it would be a no brainer, Scherzer would go because then I would not have to deal with Boras.

I don't see this coming to fruition.

Trade Max then sign Beltran & the "Beard"

November 25, 2013  10:44 AM ET

Keep Scherzer, sign Beltran and Beard or Nathan. Go for the ring again in 2014 since the stars of this team like Cabrera and Verlander are all in the prime. The only way I would consider trading Scherzer would be for some proven major talent in areas of need, LF, catcher, pen and I don't see that happening.

Scherzer would fit almost perfectly w/the yanks but,,,,,,yankees DO NOT have the quality in their farm system their prospects aren't a top level at all,,,,,,perhaps a single catcher??
yankees are well known for their tough catchers in their minors except they still not ready for majors,,

Scherzer would fit in a trade ONLY if there is a top team who its willing to trade top talent, the cardinals/the marlins/the Rays/what's going to be??Scherzer w/Boras attach to his back, its very difficult to get top value players in any trade??

$37.5 million per year for 8 years, that seems really high. I'll say Scherzer gets something like 7 years and $160 million.

Did he ever meet Jenny?

November 28, 2013  03:01 AM ET

The Jays need Sherzer. The Tigers need a closer.---Jansen
the Tigers need a Dh.---Lind
the tigers need a set up guy---Cecil
the tigers need a replacement for Hunter, down the road.----Sierra
the tigers need a backup for the kid at 3b---Estures
Surley their must be a deal in this, if it is true that they want to move Sherzer.

I also think the Jays would be interested in Fister, if Sherzer is unavalable. Alex said he talked to the Tigers earlier and they were seeking something else. The Tigers should call him back and jump all over this to fullfil a lot of their needs in one trade.
