'Coach O' lauded by USC legend

07:31 AM ET 11.25 | For one, Marcus Allen has seen enough -- he's convinced. The 1981 Heisman Trophy winner from USC said Ed Orgeron has sufficiently proved he deserves to drop the interim title and become the Trojans' head football coach. Allen isn't part of any selection committee, but if he were, he would hire Orgeron. ... Allen said USC has historically succeeded when it has an inspirational leader as coach, as opposed to an offensive or defensive guru, someone more focused on Xs and O's than personal relationships. "It's people, not plays," Allen said. "You always hear those coaches say, 'I don't care if you like me, I just want to be respected.' I mean, that's a joke, dude. You want respect, but you want to be liked too. Because if your players like you, they'll give you even more. Coach O understands that."

This pic of O always reminds me of a young Charlie Weis, who just now sees a huge box of Krispy Kremes somebody brought out to practice.

Haden is in a tough spot with this. He knows that a resume of 7 games as Interim Head Coach is not a convincing argument to hand Ed "the reins" for the next several years but he cannot just ignore USC legends like Marcus Allen's and other notable alums opinions. Time to put that Rhodes Scolar pedigree to use Pat...!

oops...I meant "Rhodes Scholar"

Ya gotta go visit him in the pokey to hear his opinion. Maybe Mike Garrett has an opinion you'd like instead?

It is not like Marcus Allen is not a good judge of character and all.

November 25, 2013  09:31 AM ET

I am not sold on Kevin Sumlim and his defenses, nor am I sold on Jack Rio as a recruiter. If Kiffin blew a 24 - 0 half time lead he would have been castrated. I personally like the idea of Greg Roman (49er's OC he has college experience in the PAC 12 and has the NFL experience) and paying Coach O a boatload of $$$ to be head Asst Coach.

Makes sense to me.

Great comment and probably the best one that will appear on this thread today.

I think Haden should hire Orgeron but put him o a short 2 year take-it-or-leave-it contract. This way he silences the team, fans, and alumni but gives himself an escape if Coach O flops in a year or 2.
