07:16 AM ET 11.27 | As the playoff push slowly came down the home stretch in Boston, free agent catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia had to be wondering whether he'd be wearing the Red Sox jersey in 2014. At least the Twins, Rockies and possibly Blue Jays have been identified as among the teams that could be threats to steal [Saltalamacchia] from the incumbent Red Sox. The Rangers look like another possibility to observers, but one person connected with the Rangers suggested a return for Saltalamacchia wasn't too likely at the moment. They have suggested they are going with Geovany Soto as their catcher, though they've at least looked at other free-agent catchers. The Red Sox made an early two-year offer for Saltalamacchia but they showed strong interest in free-agent catchers Carlos Ruiz and Brian McCann.

The Blue Jay are going to steal him eh? There will be no hard feelings from this side when the Yankees steal Beltran.

If Salty signs with either the Rockies, Twinkles, or Jays he will never be heard from again.

Catching is very thin. He'll get a nice contract from someone.

I hope he stays in Boston. He's improved a ton at the plate and his defense (not including throwing) has gotten better every year. I'd be willing to chalk up his poor WS performance to gagging a bit under the contract pressure.

I wouldn't mind that. Maybe a 2 yr deal with an option for a 3rd will get something done. I know Cherington is very high on catching prospects Vazquez and Swihart, but neither is close to being major league ready.

Let's sign him and get it over with; there are not any better alternative FAs left, and a trade could be costly.

With Mauer's move to first base, the Twins could really use him unless they've got some kid in the minors I've not heard about.

The TIGERS need a catcher and a new center fielder and a left fielder.

angels could provide those needs, they have a catcher in Chris eannetta,a CF in mark trumbo,
and a LF in trumbo, and if they need a 2nd basemen Kendrick would fit perfectly,,,
