07:34 AM ET 11.28 | This holiday weekend may offer a calm before the storm. With the MLB winter meetings in Orlando beginning a week from Sunday, teams are engaged in substantive talks regarding trades and signings that could lay the groundwork for a flurry of moves. ... The Cubs are shopping starter Jeff Samardzija and as many as eight teams have shown considerable interest in landing the right-hander, who is not eligible for free agency until after the 2015 season. The front office has had discussions with Samardzija's camp regarding a long-term contract extension, but the two sides are far apart financially. On Wednesday, major league sources who spoke on condition of anonymity confirmed to me that the front runners to land Samardzija in a trade are the Toronto Blue Jays, Baltimore Orioles and Arizona Diamondbacks.

You can eliminate the Jays with nothing to trade because of the blockbuster with the Fish, so that leaves the O's and DBacks as front runners. The Cubs will probably move him somewhere this winter knowing even if they keep him they are still cellar dwellers way past the 15 season anyway.

He is good not great, get as much as they can now since they are probably 3 years from having a decent team anyways.

This pitcher was awarded an initial contract that was inflated. Now his ego or his agent can't face reality.

He is a decent pitcher so get what you can for him while his trade value is high

Until he pitches for a team that has some offense his upside is unknown.
Young lefty starters are always in demand; he is an attractive prospect for a lot of teams.

the angels could joy the crew, lets not forget the halos are in desperate situation their rotation its down to two front starters in weaver and wilson,my guess its they will use the new reliever Smith in their thin rotation,,but who knows halos could swing at any blinded trade, trumbo and kendrick/AYBAR are players in their list to trade them, all at the same time or one by one hat say you cubies???

Samardzija has 6 years in the bigs. The first 3 were a handfull of innings and inflated era.The next 3 were desent, with his final year over 200 Inn and a decent era. This does not look like a front line starter-ace-to me. I don't believe the Jays need more starters, rather, they need to lose Bherle-Happ-Romero and get the ace. I believe with Sherzer, Dickey, Morrow, Rodgers, Redman, Drabek this will be enought. Hang on to Sancez-Hutchison-Stroloman at 3A.
