Cabrera wants to play ... first base?

07:38 AM ET 11.28 | Thanks to moving Prince Fielder to Texas, the Tigers have an opening at first base. [Miguel Cabrera] wouldn't mind moving back across the diamond next season. Cabrera, who played third base for the Detroit Tigers the past two seasons with Fielder at first base, has told the Tigers "I want to play first base," according to Venezuelan newspaper El Universal. It would seem like a logical move for the Tigers to move Cabrera back to first base, where he played for much of his career for the Tigers before Fielder came on board, considering concerns with his age (30) and health. That would leave an opening at third base for Detroit, which prospect Nick Castellanos could fill. He originally was a third baseman before moving to the outfield in the Tigers' farm system in 2012.

Where ever Cabrera wants to play he will get his wish being the man in Detroit.

That's one of the reasons the trade was made in the first place and was announced the day the trade was made. This is an old story now and definitely not something new.

When Cabrera speaks people listen!

Why this article? This has been reported and speculated on for over a week now. MVP's have a way of playing where they want to play.

Kind of hard to hide that kind of expected production, 3rd is known as a power position. It can be done, I point out the 68 Tigers with Aurillo Rodriguez who was all glove with very little pop or power. Sure hope this rook can field like Rodriguez. I strongly believe there is another move in the mix, maybe Chase Hendley from the Padres.?

Captain Obvious Cabrera also says, "I'm holding a baseball bat, which is used to hit baseballs!"

Can Castellanos play third, and hit enough to keep his spot? I think that is the question.

Tiger fans are all waiting for the answer to this question with bated breath.

Cabrera get it done wherever he is placed, the guy has the right momentum with his bat and the ability to swing without any grade of difficulty,,,

He's the worst fielding 3B in the majors. Moving him back to 1B is a good idea.

This guy can play anywhere he wants on my team, except pitching!!!

November 29, 2013  09:40 AM ET

I think what he's really getting at is that he wants to get his weight back up around a nice even 300.
