07:40 AM ET 11.28 | This Thanksgiving weekend may be better than most for starting pitcher Ryan Vogelsong. I got late word Wednesday night that the Giants are moving toward an agreement to re-sign [Vogelsong], who became a free agent last month when the team declined his $6.5 million option for 2014. I don't have specifics, but the Giants hoped to sign Vogelsong for a lower guaranteed salary plus incentives after his poor 2013 season. In two rotation stints before and after he broke his hand swinging at a pitch, the 36-year-old right-hander had a 5.37 ERA over 19 starts. His velocity declined markedly. But the Giants believe Vogelsong was affected by a short offseason then pitching in the World Baseball Classic in March. Team officials consistently said there was nothing wrong with Vogelsong's arm.

At the rate these sub par pitchers are getting these days a 3 million dollar contract with incentives would be a steal.

Giants rotation in 2014...Bumgarner, Cain, Lincecum, Hudson, Vogelsong = perhaps the majors' best.

I'm as big a Giants homer as anyone, but I have a tough time buying that. Bumgarner is a great young pitcher. Cain had an off year in 2013. Timmy has been on a two year slide. Hudson's best days are behind him, and Vogey fell off a cliff last year. They'd need serious bounce back seasons from several of those guys to be able to make that claim.

The 2014 Hall of Fame eligible class is announced and we're discussing a 5.37 ERA NL West pitcher. Good job.

I'm not sure how a guy whose option wasn't picked up and is on the verge of accepting a low-guarantee, high-incentive contract can be considered overrated.

Vogelsong left a lot to be desired until his injury... If it wasn't a conditioning problem, Vogelsong might be spent...
