Thomas' Olympic dream very real

07:38 AM ET 11.29 | Wednesday was an off-night for Tim Thomas, who hasn't had many of them since returning to the NHL. Clearly, as [Thomas] goes, so go the Panthers these days. That has been evident in their recent improved play. It was also apparent in Wednesday's 5-2 loss to the Rangers as Thomas was lacking his usual magic while allowing four goals on 21 shots (the fifth goal was an empty-netter). Nonetheless, the two-time Vezina Trophy winner has settled into a familiar groove. ... This run of durability since recovering from the two minor leg injuries could help Thomas' chances of earning a spot on the U.S. Olympic team, which he says he covets and was one of the main reasons he came back this year. Thomas is one of six goalies being considered for Sochi, it was revealed this week by USA Hockey.

Wouldnt that be a circus.

The Olympic team could do a lot worse than have Tim Thomas in net.

Now we're talking!

Just the fact Thomas is being mentioned as a candidate seems ludicrous. Thomas? Really? Okay then, how about we toss Mike Richter and Tom Barrasso's names in the hat too, seems about as likely as Thomas making the team.

Tim's been known to disappear when needed. Last year even the NSA couldn't find him.

Forgot all about him. Yeah, bring on the gold!

Tim Thomas, the same guy that skipped the White House ceremony after the Bruins won the Stanley Cup, now wants to play for the United States national team in the Olympics. Are you kidding me?
