08:16 AM ET 11.30 | Steelers coach Mike Tomlin should have been penalized for stepping on the field Thursday night and the play will be reviewed for discipline over the next week, an NFL official confirmed to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. In addition, the official running along with the play -- who allowed Tomlin to come between him and the Baltimore Ravens' Jacoby Jones -- could be downgraded, according to the source. After the Steelers scored to close to 13-7 in the third quarter, Jones broke free down the sideline on the ensuing kickoff but slowed up with Tomlin on the white stripe near the field of play -- with his foot on the field at one point as Jones neared his location. Tomlin, who had his back to the play, was not penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Landry or Lombardi would never stoop so slow. Just a thug pretending to be a coach.

There's no way a veteran head coach loses track of a play the way Tomlin wants us to believe. He knew what he was doing.

Taking a page from Kidd's book, next time Tomlin will drop the whole Gatorade bucket into the field to get a timeout.

So they'll get Tomlin for standing too close to the field, but won't get Gay for taking Jason Campbell's head off a few weeks back?

Gay was fined just under $16K for the hit on Campbell.

Woody Hayes is smiling.

Mike Tomlin was grinning like the Cheshire cat after the tackle was make.

I don't understand why that wasn't a penalty and why Gay didn't get fined for that later. Imagine if the hit was on Brady, Manning, or even Roethlisberger. It would have been a summary execution.

Years ago the Steelers were trying to kick a last minute field goal, but it was blocked and as the Chiefs were running the ball down the Steeler sideline for a touchdown Cowher started to go after the guy like he was going to tackle him. He didn't quite get on the field, but he apologized to the guy and the Chiefs afterwards. Tomlin doesn't seem to have that much class.

Didn't know that. No suspension?

Not so far as I've read.

I'm surprised, I expect more out of Tomlin. He's always been a classy guy. See what happens when a guy like Jason Kidd pulls a bus league stunt, he place just to pieces. I blame it all on JK

It would be to bad if someone would take him out on the sideline by thrown and block on him.

Had Jones run into Tomlin, he would have been awarded a TD, no doubt.

Or call the grounds keeper and have him turn on the sprinklers.

Well for eternity Tomlin will be in the NFL Blooper reel.

His best bloopers are how well he is able to motivate his players against opponents like the Raiders, Titans, and Vikings.... to name a few this year...

The dummy in it all is the guy running the football. All he had to do was make contact with Tomlin and the deal is settled on the field by the officials. Same as interference by a player on a base runner in baseball. Make contact and you get the base you were headed to.

The Cardinals and Red Sox got a refresher on that rule not too long ago.
