09:15 AM ET 12.01 | The Twins are expected to announce the signing of free-agent righthander Phil Hughes to a three-year, $24 million deal this week, according to a person with knowledge of negotiations. Hughes could be in the Twin Cities as early as this weekend for a physical, the person said. A physical usually is the final step before a deal is formally announced.

another highly-touted, under-performing prospect sent away from the bright lights of NYC. This time, no one can argue he wasn't given enough chances.

QUOTE(#1):

its crazy to me how a guy with a 5 era gets a multi-year deal at 8 mil perI think that out of the NY pressure cooker he has a chance to bounce back, but his wiring is all wrong, throws way too many pitches and doesn't trust his stuff enough

maybe the new stadium/new pitching coach could straight him up who knows?
this guy knows how to pitch except the Yankees its a pression place and very little room
for any mistake!!!

The Twinkles are in desperate need for starting pitching and this is the reason Hughes got such a contact from Minnesota and probably would be their starter on opening day.

In the great tradition of IPK and Hot Carl Pavano, I predict he'll have a great season in his second year with the Twins and then fade into obscurity.
