Packers shutting down Rodgers

07:05 AM ET 12.02 | Not only may Aaron Rodgers not be available for Week 14, but also beyond it. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Sunday on NFL Network's "NFL GameDay First" that, while the Green Bay Packers quarterback has targeted Dec. 8 for his return from a fractured collarbone, Rodgers would "be lucky" to return in time for the team's bout with the Falcons, per a source with direct knowledge of the injury. That's not all. If the Packers fall to Atlanta -- with Matt Flynn likely to start -- and Green Bay tumbles out of the playoff picture, Rapoport was told the team might shut down Rodgers for the rest of the season to avoid further injury to the passer's collarbone. The picture couldn't be more grim for the Packers, who were abysmal on offense in Thursday's 40-10 loss to the Detroit Lions.

AR should sit for the rest of the year. Then next month clean house, starting with Dom Capers.

A wise decision since they are not going anywhere except for ice fishing.

Rogers season should be over, and the Pack should be thinking about next season, as this one is basically over for the Packers.

Too bad.

It's not just Aaron Rodgers that is the issue GB.. That defense doesn't look too hot either. No O.. No D?? =Losing season.

I agree, the offense is toothless without Rodgers and the defense is just as bad.

JJ's flip phone.

They shouldn't rush him back in either situation. Still, this season's a wash.

That pretty much sums things up.

Agreed, Dom Capers has done a poor job with the defense as evidenced by that unit leading the NFL in missed tackles.

Green Bays playoff hopes are pretty much gone so why risk it - I totally agree with sitting Rodgers, I also think that Washington should shelve RG3.

I think every team that is out of the playoff picture should shelve players that are suffering any minor injuries so as not to aggravate them and also get a better idea how good the depth on your team is.

In some instances I would play my star players if they are competing for a statistical rewards

I think that Green Bay was in denial as long as Rodgers was in the game and getting Green Bay to the playoffs.

Now they can pull their head out of the sand and do some honest evaluations.

The Packers are only a game and a half out of first with 4 games left. If Rodgers can get the okay to play by the medical staff I believe our chances are good despite the weak defense. This talk of sitting Rodgers is premature.

The best thing the organization can do after the season is to fire Capers and sign a capable backup QB.

But instead of RGIII getting benched, the Redskins say he needs the "practice & experience".... OK... But instead of trying to develop the QB in the pocket they run him 15 times a game on keepers getting him hit constantly.

RGIII had Garson open to throw to but elected to run instead. The Skins should give the ball to Morris more and keep Helu off the field as he is just a marginal RB. Shanahan has done a poor job with that offense.
