07:16 AM ET 12.03 | At least for another week, David Akers can breathe a sigh of relief. The Lions did work out kickers on Monday, including Havard "Kickalicious" Rugland, but it was not in response to [Akers] missing a 31-yard field goal attempt against the Packers. The workout session had been planned prior to the Packers game, and Lions coach Jim Schwartz expressed confidence in Akers after the game. "I told him at halftime that if we needed a game-winner, we're going to put him right back out; we're not going for it on fourth down," Schwartz said. "I just think he tried to baby that one a little bit." ... Rugland, self-titled "Kickalicious," was in training camp with the Lions and was among at least three kickers the team worked out Monday. None were signed.

You make it sound like we should be surprised.

Havard Rugland was on the Detroit Lions preseason roster. He was 3-for-3 in the preseason, including a 49 and 50 yard attempt.

If anything we should all be surprised he's yet to make a roster. Because he's not exactly missing kicks when he gets his opportunity on the field.

Any team that signs a kicker named "Kickalicious" will be subject to immediate and non-stop ridicule.

Can you imagine the fun "Kickalicious" would have in the locker room?

Akers is just milking the last game day checks he can. Can't blame him.

He would be thankful for the new NFL policy against bullying.

Sounds like a perfect fit for the Jets then. He could pair right up with their QB "Pickalicious".

I am getting a mixed message here. "Jim Schwartz expressed confidence in Akers after the game" but then why the other guys putting their stuff in my locker coach- Aikers

Ravissimo Verma. Enough said.

So when is JJ going to pick him up ?

December 3, 2013  03:07 PM ET

This has to be Akers last season. He is rapidly going down hill since 2011 season when he had his best season as a kicker.

If he keeps up with Kickalicious, his first name will fast become "Nancy"

I picture a dude that names himself "kickalicious" to look like Vanilla Ice.
