07:25 AM ET 12.03 | Free agent catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia just may be taking his talents to South Florida. The Marlins are one of three teams in the mix to sign [Saltalamacchia], an official in touch with the team's front office told us [Monday] evening. Minnesota and Boston are the other contenders, according to an industry source. Financial parameters have been discussed with all three teams. The Boston Globe reported that even though the Red Sox have made an offer, they are unlikely to retain Saltalamacchia, which would leave the Marlins and Twins competing for him. The Marlins are eager to add an offensively-skilled catcher, and Saltalamacchia is coming off his best offensive season. ... Saltalamacchia, 28, grew up in West Palm Beach and is open to the idea of returning to South Florida.

Salty has turned into a team leader and great clubhouse guy during his time in Boston. Nobody works harder in trying to improve their game, according to most teammates. I for one wish him well wherever he lands.

Red Sox have signed AJ Pyrzinski (sp?). Salty won't be coming back to Boston.

Enough already. The horse is dead.

I'm not fond of AJ or the signing.

The man has his ring and if there are only two teams to choose from then Miami beach should be his new home.

Boston must believe Christian Vazquez will be ready in 2015. He had better be.

He is annoying when he's not on your team. But he had a pretty good year. He's still got some baseball left in him.

Why not? He's a pretty good catcher. I hate the guy, but I think he's a smart player.

Concur - a good catcher with a decent enough bat.

They got him on a 1 year deal. Boston is risking very little here. I'm surprised AJ took one year.

Sox must have really overpaid for that 1 year.

I'm actually thinking as they get older some guys see the writing on the wall - and will start doing it if they aren't "super stars". The contract landscape is changing a little - it could be entertaining.
