Ice thinning under Jones at SMU

07:27 AM ET 12.03 | June Jones isn't used to being shut out, but hit happened Friday against Houston. The Mustangs still have one game left, but keep an eye on this situation. Despite much improved play in the second half of the season, there's a lot of unease about the direction of the program. ... Though SMU has not been inclined to fire [Jones] -- he is well-liked, and such a move would be both expensive and distasteful for school president Gerald Turner -- it will be interesting to see how high the heat gets turned up. This is one situation where both sides may be unhappy. Is SMU fully committed to doing what it takes (especially on the academic side and non-conference scheduling) to help build the program and push it to the next level?

Maybe SMU is tired of playing nice and wants a return to the olden days of the Pony Excess.

SMU needs to act quickly if they want to have any chance of moving out of the "other 5" and into the "Power 5". I like Jones, but I don't think he can get them where they want to go.

Only in Texas.... SMU has an enrollment similar to Wake Forest, and yet, the good Methodists in charge believe that their football program should be "elite." This, after having their program shut down for egregious wrong doing.

Wake has an enrollment similar to Notre Dame (not to mention the state school I attended in the 80's which isn't even FCS) and ND good Catholics expect an elite program as well...the difference? God and the Pope would never allow the latter to have their program shut down....
