The best thing about Sarkisian ...

07:30 AM ET 12.03 | So, as many expected -- even if notable alums tried to turn the tide -- Ed Orgeron won't be the next head coach at USC, which opted for Steve Sarkisian. A coach that Hollywood will love? Check. This year's Huskies team has the nation's 19th-ranked offense with 69 points against Oregon State, a 32-point win over Boise State, and no games in which they scored fewer than three touchdowns. Equally important is what Sarkisian is not. He is not Lane Kiffin. He is not Kiffin 2.0. He is not a Kiffin encore. They are friends, but their personalities are far different. ... Sarkisian is a strong and visible leader while Kiffin kept his nose in a playbook. And, oh yeah, it was Kiffin, not Sarkisian, who called that doomed fourth-down run by LenDale White against Texas in the 2006 Rose Bowl.

Bad decision.

To me this is a very logical hire. Not the "marqee" name some USC fans wanted but neither was Carroll, Robinson nor even John McKay when they were brought in. USC got what it wanted. A "USC GUY" who probably sees this as the only job he ever really wanted. Personally I see this as a good hire for the program however as an ND fan I certainly hope he has a lot less success against us that the three aforemention USC coaches above did...!

Seven Win Steve. Good luck. He's just a pup.

He could've done Pirates of the Caribbean IV while coaching in Hollywood.

I don't think this hire is much of a surprise.

"USC GUY" nails it. Orgeron isn't and Sark hearkens back to the last "glory days" under Carroll. Sark is O, but Carroll was/is D, so Sark'd better get a better D-Co'rd than Clancy Pendergast. As it is, this won't be a "riding through Persepolis" kind of deal. In some ways, this is actually a very "small screen" hire. Then again no one ever said Pat Haden was a rocket scientist.

Young up and comer. Will get better recruits at USC. Should have success.

You, sir, are an optimist. This is the PAC 12 we're talking about and things aren't getting any easier. His record of recruiting at WA is so-so, but that's maybe because he's far away from El Dorado (= Cali).

Its UDub. USC was pulling in 5*s with Kiffen, scholly limits, and bowl bans. Advantage USC.

They've already done 4 and are starting work on #5.

Leach is in there as an extra, I'm sure.

But that was Kiffin and the "SC" brand. You have to look at Sark's record in Seattle. You also have to look at Lupoi who recruited guys like Shaq Thompson. That wasn't Sark. All I am saying is that, on balance, this is a positive hire, but that SC fans should expect bowls, but not expect national championships from Sark. At least not based on his track record.

Maybe Sarkisian should have recruited better?

December 3, 2013  10:00 AM ET

Wow I wonder if this was a backroom deal the NCAA made with them...that is Hire Lane then Sark and we will not need to give the program the death penalty I hate to believe these were self imposed sanctions by USC.

Isnt Sark bringing those guys with him???

SC sells itself for the most part.... Will he be able to coach them up....

If Big O lands a job with a PAC school.. I am sure he will pull some of these recruits...

SC should have gave O the job... And if he fails.. Hire Chip Kelly in about 2 years if the Iggles send him packing
