Winger pays the price for Leafs slump

07:32 AM ET 12.03 | With Toronto singing the blues lately, David Clarkson saw red on Monday. When the Maple Leafs emerged from a hard-to-watch video session preceding their first practice after four straight losses, the pricey winger was wearing the rouge of a checking line, with Carter Ashton and Trevor Smith. Nikolai Kulemin had switched positions with Clarkson on the second line with centre Nazem Kadri and Mason Raymond. Either coach Randy Carlyle was just compensating for Monday's absence of injured forwards Jay McClement and Joffrey Lupul or Clarkson is about to be the first high-profile Leaf to pay the price for the team's losing ways. Carlyle's comments seem to indicate the latter. ... "We're not creating enough," Carlyle said. "We waited to do an analysis over the three games (on the recent road trip) and felt there wasn't enough there."

Maybe a little more "anger" is what the team needs. I'm sure there's more than Clarkson that need to play better.

I'd have Little Davey order a lot more red sweaters Randy.

agree. Can say the same about my Rags!

He will be fine; he will take it like a champ and respond.

Does Randy have the balls to put Kulemin, Kadri, and Kessel together?

Maybe the problem with the Leafs is that a player like Clarkson is "pricey" and considered "high profile". Many fans outside of the GTA wouldn't even recognize his name.

I'm far more concerned with how guys like Kessel and Kadri are playing than I am with Clarkson. The guy's doing what he can, and he's actually played pretty well for the most part in the past 6 games or so, goals be damned.

I have to agree with Danny L. here. K squared have been very inconsistent this season so far at the 1/3 pole. But, Clarkson is good. He snake bit the Rangers two seasons ago in the ECF and had a pretty good playoffs that entire year. TML's paid a bit too much but he is still an impact player.

I'm far more concerned about the Rag's inability to score

hahaha pretty much.

Sometimes I just yell for Boyle to pick up the puck and throw it in the goal.

Maybe if Kessel bought chocolates and flowers for Bozack.

I think perhaps a chocolate heart and some cookies on a stick would be well received

David Clarkson saw red on Monday ... the pricey winger was wearing the rouge of a checking line.

Why is the Toronto Sun writer surprised when the entire hockey world knows that's who David Clarkson is? It's not his fault that he's pricey but ... he is a checker.
