07:29 AM ET 12.04 | A's GM Billy Beane has been a busy man over the past few days, signing free-agent lefty Scott Kazmir and making separate deals for closer Jim Johnson, center fielder Craig Gentry and reliever Luke Gregerson. As Beane noted Tuesday, the A's don't operate with five-year plans; they need to seize the moment whenever possible. Here they are, coming off two straight playoff appearances, operating with financial flexibility, watching their division rivals navigate various states of transition. Why not go for it? ... The A's are trying to win now. Gentry actually was one of the team's primary targets; right-handed hitting center fielders are difficult to find, and the A's also investigated a deal for the Diamondbacks' A.J. Pollock. Part of this is about preserving Coco Crisp; manager Bob Melvin now can rest his regular center fielder on occasion and use him as a DH.

....brad pitt can be full of himself at times....he gave rival texas his number 2 and number 8 prospect for yet another gamble..... spare parts.....seems brads boys not so smart when the other teams are a bit more focused (playoffs)...

You have to take your hat off to Beane and his small market organization in keep finding ways to compete with the big boys in their division and the American League.

I'd blame Jonah Hill.

The A's better have their bullpen lined up on the days that Kazmir is scheduled to pitch.

Kazmir would have to learn a new strategy back in the A's team, plus the A's have a very decent core of coaches/pitching coach/hitting coach/bench coach,,,,

I guess that Craig Gentry deal put them over the top...

Jim Johnson will cause many A's fans to take up smoking and drinking

the A's should trade Anderson and tough prospect pitcher to the halos for Howe Kendrick,
Anderson tag its 8 millions for 2014 season, and angels hitter in kendrick will be 9 millions in 2014,,
but would the A's take this trade as a great help for the team??

December 4, 2013  05:43 PM ET

now we all know the halos are in desperation position,,,and their cash flow situation has very little room for error,
halos refuse to offer any contract to jerome williams/hanson and other players/for one simple reason,
their tag of a 189 millions its by far out of order aside that, angels are out of money in their bank,,,
