Hamels details bitterness in Philly's clubhouse

07:32 AM ET 12.04 | Cole Hamels took the occasion of a recent interview to call it as he saw it. "Our hitting sucked," he admitted, and if you listened closely, you could hear Phillies fans everywhere reply in unison, "Amen, brother." Even so, he hoped the team would make bolstering the pitching staff a priority in this off-season -- a wish that, with [Monday's] offers to Kyle Kendrick and Antonio Bastardo, may go unfulfilled in any meaningful way. Cole was also blunt about how the team was just as ugly internally as it looked from the stands. "The energy in the clubhouse changed," he said. "It used to be all high fives. This season, there weren't as many high fives. There was a lot of bitterness, pointing fingers -- 'You haven't played well in a week, why weren't you in here early?'"

It wasn't like Hamels had a great year. 3.60 ERA and an 8 -14 record. this is a guy that complained about hitters mot playing up to ability.

Maybe Hamels is the root cause of the bitterness in club house

December 4, 2013  12:53 PM ET

They're going to bring a Bastardo in to improve the clubhouse.

I agree, he should say everything's rosy like Dear Leader says about "Oblundercare".

You're there to WIN, it's a JOB......**** people's feelings, after all this is Philly the toughest sports town in America, perhaps the world.

You mean the only team with a higher payroll, equally as old and also watching the 2013 postseason from home?

Yeah, why wouldn't he want to play there?

You haven't killed any refs or umps lately so I'm thinking you don't get the 'toughest sports town in the world' title yet.

December 4, 2013  03:50 PM ET

Sweet.

December 4, 2013  05:31 PM ET

the trade of the year for the halos in starting pitching??????
angels trade kendrick/Aybar Chris eannetta,,,,for Chris archer/Alex torres/Felipe Rivero/ from the Tampa Rays,,,,now that would give a credibility lineup for the Rays,,, two solid hitters in Kendrick and Aybar, but should the rays take the hefty contracts from this two players??
my believe is the angels should pay half of the salary in both players,,,

Ergo, the 'perhaps' part...........though we did boo and throw snowballs at a drunken, tardy, replacement Santa, so that has to count for something -right??? ;p

it seems the phillies GM has not done too well in their last two years w/free agent players,,,he traded players to the dodgers/rangers/ and allowed a few hitter to hit the open market,
something that wouldn't help his team at all,yet they refuse to take responsability for their
weak approach in the open market as of late!!

That may get you the national title, but those South and Central American countries are going to be hard to beat for the world title. They actually do kill the refs and umps.
