07:33 AM ET 12.04 | The college basketball season is barely a month old, but Lute Olson has already seen enough. "This is ridiculous," the former longtime Arizona coach told USA TODAY Sports in a phone interview. The focus of the officials this season has been to crack down on hand checking and enforce a different interpretation of the block-charge call. The edict, proposed by the NCAA Basketball Rules Committee in May to increase scoring and diminish physicality and adopted by the NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel in June, has been considered one of the most dramatic changes in the sport in many years. "Frankly, I really don't like it that much," Olson said. "I think it takes teams out of their rhythm. It seems like there is a whistle stopping play so many times."

I agree with coach it is ridiculous! There was nothing wrong that aspect of the game. It will be interesting to see how teams like Mich st. and Duke adjust if need be.

Most sports seem to be changing the rules to increase scoring to appeal to the masses ($$$). In the process, they alienate the true fans of the sport, create a watered-down product, and a viewing experience that is full of stoppages. Never watched a lick of hockey or soccer growing up, but watching it more and more the past few years because you can get a number of minutes of non-stop play in compared to football and basketball.
