Defection complicates bowl prep for Irish

07:37 AM ET 12.04 | Irish offensive coordinator Chuck Martin, hired by Brian Kelly to help revive Notre Dame's storied football program, now has another resuscitation effort on his hands after accepting the head coaching position at Miami (Ohio) University. Martin's departure mildly complicates the bowl prep for Kelly and the Irish (8-4). ... Ultimately, it will be interesting to see long-term if Kelly elevates one of his offensive assistants to Martin's vacated position or goes outside to make the hire. Running backs coach Tony Alford and Denbrock are two strong internal candidates and also Kelly's top two recruiters. Alford also serves as ND's recruiting coordinator and has coached receivers and running backs during this four seasons with Kelly.

There's a former gator OC looking for work.

This is normal for the bowl season -- coaches (usually assistants, sometimes head coaches) move on to better jobs (or the unemployment line), and things get juggled in the bowl game. That's part of how it work.

No worry, OC's of Martin's level grow on trees.

Brian Kelly walked out on the University of Cincinnati when they were 12-0 and preparing to face Florida in a BCS Bowl. This is minor compared to his cowardly act. Knowing his ego, he'll just assume the OC role himself so he can say he was calling the plays all season and Martin was just a puppet.

Bowl Prep? Did I miss something? What Bowl have they accepted ? I see they are projected for the, "New Era Pinstripe Bowl." They will play Houston. Teams prep for these bowls? Who knew?

In point of fact, BK is the OC in reality.
I'd be more concerned if the DC leaves.
PS-If you don't have an ego you won't survive as a HC in top tier CFB competition.

Agree you have to have a certain amount of ego and confidant air about you. You have to prtray that you are the best at what you do. Most good talent wont want to play for a coach theat does not beieive he is the best HC in CFB.

Because everybody fears U of Michigan right? LOLOLOL. And btw, Kelly isn't the guy scheduling ND's opponents. I don't like the guy at all, and I agree what he did to Cincy was wrong, but I'm not blaming him for scheduling. I'll blame the athletic director for that.
