07:32 AM ET 12.05 | By the end of this calendar year, we may know just about everything we need to about the Cubs' 2014 starting rotation. The Cubs should know soon about their chances of pursuing Japanese free agent pitcher Masakiro Tanaka. ... [Theo Epstein] also expressed cautious optimism that Jeff Samardzija, who is two years away from free agency and has received interest from other teams, will start the season with the Cubs. "I'm really bullish on his future," Epstein said. "He can be a difference-making starting pitcher for a long time. Obviously you have to factor in how many years of control you have left, and is there a way to extend that (beyond) medium term (to) long term. The single best way to do that is with a contract extension. The second best way to do that is by trading the player."

They're so drunk that they're talking about what a great year Fergie Jenkins is going to have!

Theo great line to all Cub fans that you are making an effort to sign him long term, but in the back room you know you have as much chance signing him to an extension as the Cubs have in winning the division in 14.

If the cubs are dealing I hope the Rockies are listening instead of continually going after retreads!
