07:38 AM ET 12.05 | Being able to almost individually count every person in the building around the time it opens is clearly a disappointing sign of the times. Florida still has 54 games left in the season so there are plenty of points available over the next four-plus months. Reality, however, is a different story. ... The Panthers had their smallest announced attendance in six seasons Tuesday against Ottawa. An estimated 500 fans were in the building for warmups. Approximately 8,000 watched the game in an arena that holds close to 20,000. Florida's official announced attendance of 10,074 was just a handful more than reported for a Halloween game in 2008 against Carolina. "In Florida, if you have a good team, people will come," [Mike Weaver] said. "We're not winning at home right now. Now is the time to move forward."

'Now is the time to move forward."

Don't you mean "Now is the time to move"?

I made a passing comment about this in the Kulikov thread from yesterday. South Florida will only support a playoff contending team. Nothing less.

"forward" is a slang term meaning "to Quebec City".

Ahh...

Another one of those dual-meaning words that gets lost in FN translation.

Fun facts: The Panthers are ahead of Columbus, the Isles and Phoenix in attendance and they are averaging just 37 fewer people per game than the Devils.

Simple fix here. Just rename them the Palm Fronds and they'll have a rabid base of support no matter how much they suck.

Out of those 3 the Isles play in the smallest and oldest arena.

Speaking of, maybe if the Wings had brought up Tootoo, they wouldn't have had their butt kicked and lost the game too, too.

December 5, 2013  12:12 PM ET

that was an awful 3rd period last night by the Wings

We're hurting big time. Besides Tootoo, about the only one left in Grand Rapids to possibly call up is Landon Ferraro but, I can't see how he's going to help us.
