Gretzky joining the Leafs?

07:42 AM ET 12.05 | Now that the NHL has seemingly squared things away with Wayne Gretzky, to the tune of around $7 to $8 million, the Great One may be interested in taking a front office job somewhere in the league. An obvious choice is the Edmonton Oilers. ... On the other hand, already having reached the peak of the sport numerous times in Edmonton, No. 99 might decide to stay close to his hometown. The Brantford, Ont. native was rumoured to be joining the Toronto Maple Leafs last summer. Being part of the group trying to bring the Cup back to Ontario's capital for the first time in 46 years might be too hard to resist. Tim Leiweke, President and CEO of Maple Leaf Spots & Entertainment, has already made some big statements since taking over the job this past summer and hiring Gretzky would definitely make a splash.

Celine - may I introduce you to Antoine Roussel?

You should be seeing a lot of him this evening.

As a TOR fan, I just dont see the point of adding #99 on.

Unless he is going to lace them up at Centre.

Does Wayne spend more time in LA or Canada these days?

Unless he's got a time machine in the back room and he becomes 99 of the eighties, just what is he going to do?

December 5, 2013  08:59 AM ET

Can he bring his daughter with him!

Gretz could probably use a break from the warden. He looks tired.

December 5, 2013  09:07 AM ET

Should help the powerplay and penalty kill...

Maybe he's trying to work his way back into coaching again. I'm sure he could do for the Leafs what he did for the Coyotes.

TSN has just reported Santa Claus might join the Leafs.

After interviewing a short guy who likes tight pants (either an elf or PM) Bob MacKenzie tweeted the news.

TSN has reported Nelson Mandela might join the Leafs.

Since Handy Randy can't get them to play well together MLSE thought they'd give this a try.

Since the day Gretzky retired there has been speculation he'd one day end up in the Leafs organization. It might happen now that he's not at odds with league. But the question remains, doing what? Ambassador? I'd like to see the job description.

He could still probably score 20-25 goals himself.

L.A. in winter, Canada in summer.
